Overall Targets
1. Enhancing teaching and learning effectiveness
2. Arousing students interest towards English learning
3. Helping students to build up their confidence in English
4. Helping students to develop their reading, writing, speaking and
listening skills
5. Enhancing teachers professional development
6. Enhancing collaborative work among teachers
7. Encouraging teachers and students use of IT in English language
teaching and learning

Present Situation
A. Strengths
1 The school gives full support to the Department
2. Co-ordination of work is systematic, with clear
guidelines and
expectations given to teachers.
3 The relationship among teachers in the
Department is good
and teachers are co-operative and helpful.
4.Diversity of students standard of English within
classes is
minimized
5. Teachers are encouraged to tailor teaching
materials for all classes.

B. Weaknesses
1. Most of our students come from families of low socio-economic
background so they have limited exposure to English outside school.
2. Exposure within school is inadequate since Bahasa Malaysia is the
medium of instruction in the school.
3. Unsatisfactory exposure leads to a lack of confidence and low
motivation among students towards learning English.

C. Opportunities
1. The availability of English Department enables the implementation of
programmes and activities as well as the try-out of English activities.
2. Create opportunities for teachers to further develop professionally.
D. Threats
1. The professional development of teachers may create extra pressure for
teachers who are already over-loaded with new demands of workload
and department initiatives.
2. The implementation of extra programmes, workshops and activities
may also burden teachers with extra workload and pressure.
3. The English proficiency of newly admitted students is beyond our
control.
III. Major concerns of the year 2015
1. To develop pronunciation and word recognition skills among students.
2. To develop the awareness and appreciation of different genres among
students
3. To cultivate the habit of active and responsible learning attitude among
students
4. To provide professional development for teachers to familiarize them
with the teaching in the present curriculum.
