THE EFFECTIVENES OF PRESENTING ADVERTISEMENT METHOD TO

IMPROVE STUDENTS SPEAKING ABILITY AT XII GRATE SMA 1 BONE

A. Background

English Has a Different Character With Exact Or Social Science, Which is Located in
The Function Of Language As A Communication Tool. This Identifies That Learning English Is
Not Only Learning Vocabulary and Grammar in The Sense Of Knowledge, But Must Strive to
Apply and Use it in Daily Activities as a Communication Tool (Hansen: 1984).

Language Skills Have Four Very Basic Aspects, Namely: Listening Skills (Listening),
Speaking (Speaking), Writing (Writing), Reading (Riding). But In Fact There Are Many Things
That Do Not Support The Development Of These Four Skills. The First Factor Relates To The
Students Themselves. Students Do Not Have High Learning Motivation, So Students Consider
English Is A Complementary Lesson, Not Important, And Not A National Language. As A
Result, They Do Not Follow The Lessons Well In Class. The Second Factor Is Related To The
English Teacher Himself. The Teacher Still Feels That The Students' Experience And
Knowledge Of English Is Still Very Lacking And The Method Used Is Still Too Monotonous.
So, Students Feel Uninterested In The Lesson. Students Are Unable To Express English Because
Of The Lack Of Acquired English Vocabulary Is Also One Of The Factors That Make Students
Unable To Speak The Language English. The Third Factor Relates To Media, Sources, Facilities
And Equipment In Schools As A Result, Student Learning Activities Become Monotonous.

Speaking Skills Are Taught With The Aim That Students Have The Ability To Express
Ideas, Ideas, Opinions, Ideas To Convey To Others. In High School Speaking Skill Is A Skill
That Is Emphasized In Development, Besides Reading, Writing And Listening. In Ktsp It Was
Emphasized That High School Students Need To Learn To Improve Communication Properly,
Both Orally And In Writing. Speaking Or Expressing Opinion Skills Are Emphasized On
Activities That Express Ideas correctly. In Fact, Class XII Students Of SMA Negeri 1 Bone In
Learning Activities Are Still Not Able To Express Their Opinions And Ideas, Partly Because
Students Are Afraid Of Being Wrong In What They Say, Even If They Dare To Express The
Sentence not Exactly Even More If It Has To Be Into English. For That, English Teachers Must
Be Able To Explore The Potential Of Students By Providing Reinforcements About How To
Convey Ideas And Information In English.

Based On The Results Of The Author's Observations In Class XII SMA Negeri 1 Bone, It
Was Found That Students In Speaking And Expressing Their Opinions Were Still Not Able To
Organize Ideas In The Form Of Language (Speaking) In English Correctly. The Results Of
Student Tests Also Show Unsatisfactory Scores In Each Test Given By The Teacher In The Field
Of English Studies, Students Only Get An Average Of 50-55, While The Minimum Graduation
Criteria (Kkm) That Students Must Achieve Are70.This Is Of Course Less Than Satisfactory
Considering That English Is An International Language That Must Be Mastered By Every
Student. Besides That, The Teaching And Learning Process That Takes Place In The Classroom
Still Runs Monotonously And Is Still Teacher-Centered (Teacher Center) Where The Teacher
Only Reads The Subject Matter And Is Followed By Students Simultaneously Without Paying
Attention To Pronunciation and Students' Pronunciation Intonation And Does Not Give Students
The Opportunity To Make It In Sentences So That It Is Easier For Students To Forget, This Is
Also Supported By The Unavailability Of Media In The Learning causing Lazy Students To
Repeat Their Lessons At Home, This Is Evident From The 31 Number Of Students, Only Half
Of Whom Do Homework. Many Students Who Play, Tell Stories, And Sleepy Because They Are
Bored. This Causes The Student Learning Outcomes To Be Very Low In English Lessons. After
The Author Studied The Presenting Advertisement Method, The Author Considered That This
Approach Was Very Suitable To Be Taught To Students In Language Lessons English To
Improve Students' Speaking Ability, So Students Can Not Only Write And Listen In English,
Students Can Speak English Words And Apply It In Daily Life.

Presenting Advertisement Method Is An Educational Method That Can Improve


Speaking Skills, Especially For The Upper Middle Class, Which Can Improve Students' Skills
Because This Method Is A Speaking Activity Such As group Presentations With A Variety Of
Activities. With This Learning, Students Are Expected To Be Able To Express Their Feelings In
English Words So That Learning Becomes More Meaningful Than They Have To Listen To The
Teacher's Explanation, With Students Being Invited To Speak In The English Language Then He
Will Diligently Repeat It At Home So He Becomes Active And Responsive In His English
Speaking Skills. Based On The Description Above, The Author Is Interested In Conducting A
Research Entitled "THE EFFECTIVENES OF PRESENTING ADVERTISEMENT METHOD
TO IMPROVE STUDENTS SPEAKING ABILITY AT XII GRATE SMA 1 BONE."

B. Research Questions

Based on the background above, the researcher formulates the problem statement of the research
as follow;

1. What are the factors that cause students not be confident in learning speaking in English?
2. How to Improving interest students in learning speaking?
3. What method is use to solve student's problems?

C. Research Objective

Based on research question that has been formulated before, the objectives of this study is to
know how the affect of using presenting advertisement to Improve students speaking ability.

D. Significance of the Study

The result of this study is expected to provide these benefits for people:

a. For the researcher, this study aimed to increase the researcher’s knowledge especially
about technique in teaching English.
b. For the teacher, this study is expected to be a useful reference for English language
teaching.
c. For the students, this research is expected to be able to make the students understand
about preparation before studying, so they can prepare it.
d. For the next researchers, this study will be as a comparative study for reference material.
