Concept of Argala Simplified.

Argala is an influence or intervention that a house

faces from bodies (including planets and
upagrahas) sitting in particular house positions.
Argala on a house shows the influences that
intervene in its affairs.Argala is extremely
important functional principle in Vedic Astrology. In
the literal terms, Argala means a bolt.
Planets with argala decide some parts of the
matter signified by the house.
A planet or house in the 2nd, 4th and 11th houses
from a planet or house causes Primary Argala on
the latter. Primary Argala is the influence that is
felt immediately and directly. In addition to 2,4,11
houses, 5th house is also known to be casting
Argala, though of lesser intensity, known as
Secondary Argala. Influence of secondary argala
is noticed less directly and becomes clearer with
time.
Sage Parasara has illustrated about Argala of
2,4,11 houses.

1. Argala by a benefic planet is called a

Shubhaargala (benefic intervention)
2. Argala by a malefic planet is called a
Paapaargala (malefic intervention)
This simple concept can be better appreciated if
some examples are given.
Example1: The 4th house stands for happiness.
The 2nd, 4th and 11th from the 4th house are 5th,
7th and 2nd houses respectively. Ones children
(5th), spouse, interaction with others (7th) and
family, wealth, and overall character (2nd) are the
key factors in deciding ones happiness.
If 5th house has a malefic, it is likely that due to
children, the happiness of the native would be
marred
or
compromised.
If 7th house has a malefic, it is likely that due to
spouse or business partner, the happiness of the
native would be marred or compromised.
If 2nd house has a malefic, it is likely that due to
wealth issues, family issues, the happiness of the
native would be marred or compromised.

If 8th house has a malefic, it is likely that due to

hardwork related issues, secret or occult issues,
the happiness of the native would be marred or
compromised.
If, in the above said houses, benefic planets sit,
the happiness would be contributed by the
significations of the houses in which benefic
planets sit.
Example2:
3rd house stands for short journeys.
If 4th house has a malefic, it is likely that due to
vehicle, the journey of the native would be
compromised.
If 6th house has a malefic, it is likely that due to
servant (in this case, servant can be driver), the
journey of the native would be compromised.
If 1st house has a malefic, it is likely that due to
health of self or attitude of self, the journey of the
native
would
be
compromised.
If 7th house has a malefic, it is likely that due to
spouse or journey partners, the journey of the
native would be compromised.
If, in the above said houses, benefic planets sit,
the success of short journey would be contributed

by the significations of the houses in which benefic

planets sit.
