Proud member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters Illinois State Association
Please join Big Brothers Big Sisters of Richland County in saying a special thank you to all of our wonderful School
and Community-Based Mentors! This month we are featuring two incredible mentors for National Mentoring Month.
Michelle Rennecker
How long have you been mentoring?
This is my 4th year mentoring.
Why do you feel the mentoring program is important?
I feel mentoring is important
because many children come
from single parent homes or live
with other family members, besides Mom and Dad. Some kids
today have to deal with adult problems at home and need
extra encouragement. As a mentor, you can be their role
model and give them the support and help they need.
Also, as a mother to 3 boys, who mentors a female student I really enjoy that for 1 hour a week, I get girl time.
We enjoy reading, playing games, doing puzzles and
playing ball in the gym during our time together!
What would you say to someone who is thinking of
becoming a mentor?
I would challenge everyone who has thought about mentoring to do it! It only takes an hour a week, but could
change a child's life!

How long have you been mentoring?
I have been a mentor for 7 years,
I am also currently on the BBBS
Board.
Why do you feel the mentoring
program is important?
The program ensures that for at least 1 hour each week a
child has the undivided attention of an adult to help with
school work, behavior and friendship.
What would you say to someone who is thinking of
becoming a mentor?
I did not know what to expect when I became a Mentor
but I am glad I decided to try it. It has benefitted my life
as well as the children I have spent time with.
If you would like to become a mentor, call the BBBS office at 392-3863.
