CURRICULUM
The course is designed to give the recipients both a holistic view of Law & Economics as a discipline and all the same provide opportunities to explore specific areas
that are affected by its application. Lectures will be conducted by the panel of instructors (given below), entirely in English. This will be done through 30-35 hours of
intensive sessions that are divided keeping these criteria in mind. Required reading material will be provided a week in advance of the course.
Professor Dr. Norbert Reich- Professor Emeritus of Private Law & European Economic Law at the University of Bremen is a renowned
expert on European Private Law. Dr. Reich has extensive publications in EU Consumer Laws and Economic Constitution Laws.
Professor Reich willshare with the participant's current issues of national and international significance in this interactive series. A lively discussion
on India's economic positioning, and laws as they stand today can be expected!
Professor Thomas S. Ulen- Holds a Swanlund Chair, one of the highest endowed titles on the Urbana- Champaign campus, and is director
of the College's Program in Law and Economics. He has recently completed work on two new books (Co-authored) Cognition, Rationality, and
the Law and Foundations of Environmental Policy. His book, Law and Economics (with Robert Cooter), now in its fourth edition, has been
translated into Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Korean, French, and Russian.
A skype session by Professor Thomas Ullen will also be conducted where he will discuss Economic Analysis of Empirical Legal Studies!
THE INSTRUCTORS
Professor Dr. Ehud Kamar is a Professor of Law and Director of the Tel Aviv University Batya and Isachar Fischer Center for Corporate
Governance and Capital Markets Regulation. He is also a Research Associate at the European Corporate Governance Institute. He teaches
courses in corporations, securities regulation, mergers and acquisitions, quantitative empirical methods, and deal planning, and has published
articles in leading scholarly journals. He has practiced law in Israel and the United States, and has been a Visiting Professor at Harvard University,
New York University, and the Hebrew University.
Professor Dr. Ram Singh teaching at the Delhi School of Economics specializes in Contract Theory, Law & Economics in India,
Property Rights, Public Private Partnerships & Infrastructure Laws. He isa 2011 Commonwealth Fellow, Department of Economics, London
School of Economics and a visiting faculty at Brown University. He has been awarded the prestigious Ronald Coase Fellowship & the Erasmus
Mundas Scholarship. He is presently working on Procurement Contracts and their incentive structures & Inefficiency of compulsory land
acquisitions.
Professor Dr. George Barker George is Director of the Centre for Law and Economics at the Australian National University, and President
of the Australian Law and Economics Association. He was awarded the Olin Fellowship in Law and Economics at Cornell University in 2000, was
Visiting Fellow at Oxford University Law School 2008, and is currently a visiting Fellow at the British Institute of International and Comparative
Law London and Centre for Law and Economics, University College London. He is the editor of Asia Pacific Law and Economics Review (ANU
Electronic Press), and on the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Law and Economics
Professor Dr. Thomas Eger is Professor at the Law Faculty and at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Hamburg. His
main fields of interest, on which he has written several books andarticles, are the economic analysis of civil law, the law and economics of
Europeanintegration and the transformation of Eastern and Central European economic systems.He has co-authored the Research Handbook
on the Economics of EU Law with Professor Schafer.
Professor Dr. Ranita Nagar is the Dean Research and faculty of Economics at Gujarat National Law University who is credited with having
conceptualised the present course and the Committee of Law and Economics at GNLU. Her main fields of interest include economic analysis,
law and economics, women right issues, Sustainable livelihood matters and vulnerability studies. She has previously headed various government
sponsored and independent studies to enable policy decisions.
Dr. P M Prasad is working as Associate Professor of Economics in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences, Indian Institute of
Technology Kanpur, India. He works on policy oriented research on Consumerism and Environmentalism within the domain of
interdisciplinary subject Law and Economics. He has published a book on Business, Consumer and the Government: Economic and Legal
Perspectives (India and Germany).
SOCIAL EVENTS
The Certificate Course on Law & Economics at GNLU offers scholars the opportunities to explore Gujarat in all its comfortable & hospitable lifestyle. Tourist sites
like the Gandhi Ashram are not far from the college campus.
The International Conference on Law & Economics organized on 14-15th March, 2015 will see rich participation of scholars from across the globe. A formal banquet
will be organized sometime during the course that will enable interaction between participants from both events!

The applicants must provide a Statement of Expression outlining their previous experience in the field and present research interest.
The course has a capacity for 60 participants and the application process would be closed on receiving the first 60 eligible candidates. Therefore, we suggest you apply
well in time.
