Condition of dwelling good, livable, dilapidated


Differences exist in the condition of dwelling, Good 40-50 5 CIR live in good
houses Kolkata > half 2001, 2011 CIR mostly live in good houses barring S 24
Parganas, Haora, Kolkata > half good houses.
Livable Barring S 24 paraganas, mostly CIR 40-50 % liavble 2001 Kokta < 40 %.
2011 45-50 % CIR mostly livable except haora, kolkata, N 24 parganas < 40 %.
Dilapidated
CP have greater share of dilapidated houses 5-8 5 as compared to SP, the share
increased in 2011, SP barring Kolkata more than 11 % dilapidated houses, CP 811 % dilapidated houses.
Non-residential use of occupied houses more so in EP, Wp in 2001; in 2011 less
than 15 % in EP, above 21% in Himalayan. 2011- CP only about 18-21 % , barring
kolkataa SP lesser extent 15-18%.
Himalayan, EP have less far less % of hhlds. Having less than 5 or greater rooms
arther than CP(barddhaman, hugli ) or Kolkata. CIR CP+Kolkata < 45 % 1 room
house, while paragnas have mostly 1 room houses nearly 60 %.2011. Almost
similar trends in 2001
CIR % + rooms CP have 3 % houses have > 5 + rooms, Sp kolkta> 5, s 24
parganas, > 2 %.
Ownership of own house
Lesser vulnerable-Mostly Himalayn, EP, CP have mostly owneb houses (> 95 %).
Only Haora, Kolkata, n 24 parganas have as also darjiling, jalpiaguri have less
than 80 % hhlds having self owned houses in 2001. In 2011 only kolktaa has less
than 80 5 hhlds, rest WP, EP and to a moderate degree also SP and CP have
neraabout 95 owne dhuses. CIR Extended Kolkata haora, N 24 parganas lesser
owned houses share, while bardhaman, hoogly have next higher shares of owned
houses 2001, 2011 only Kolkata remaining CIR have greater shares of owned
houses> 80 < 90 %.
Tap major source drinking water- High Kolkata> 40, CP, SP, less than 10 % WP,
EP, and some extent Himalayan 2001. 2011 Kolkata > 40 %, WP, CP, SP 20-40,
while WP Himalayan and EP varies from < 10 to 10-20. 30-40 % hhlds in cir
2001, barring Kolkata s 24 pagarnas greater shares. Similar trend in CIR in 2011.
Handpump tubewell is least major source < 30 of drinking water in Darjeeling,
jalpaiguri 2001, as also Kolkata, while it is major source of drinking water in EP, .
Mostly preiople depend on tubewell/borewell 67Avg dstate as is found in CP. SP
mostly tubewell 80-90 %. 2011 EP mostly still depends on tubewell/borewell, to
some extent in SP, WP, Himalayan. Kolktaa, Darjeeling only districts less than 30
% tubewell. Mostly CIR depends on tubewell borewell 50-70 %.

Drinking water within premises- Wp, S 24 parganas, to some extent EP have <
15, 15-30 having water source within premises, while CP and eastern districts >
60 % drinking water within premises 2001. CIR CP 30-45 % within premises, SP s
24 parganas less, others higher share. 2011 CP 30-45 within premises, similar
trend for SP.
In 2001 as also 2011, Asansol subdivision and Kolkata have > 40 tap as major
source of drinking water , otherwise mostly < 10 , this trend for remaining units
has improved from 10-20, to 20-30 for most of the other units. Asansol and most
of barddhaman less 10 % use borewell, 2001, in 2011 more houses slightly avg
10-20 % most units. Barring asansol sub division almost all remaining units in
2001 have less than 1 % well as major source of drinking water, while the former
> 30, 20-30 % well water. 2022 same trend, specially western bardhaman > 30
% well water use.WP, Ep> 30, 20-30 % well water use.
Except s 24 parganas, most units have > 15 drinking water within premises. In
2001. 2011 same trend bout wpm pore units > 15 % drinking water within
premises.
2001 mostly cir > 55 (>65 %s 24 parganas) have drinking water near premises,
Kolkata < 35 %. 2011 along with kolkata, n 24 paragnas, some parts
barddghaman < 35 % water near premises, otherwise between 35-55 %near
premises. Only 10-30 % households have drinking water source faraway 2001,
barring some parts ofSP, S 24 parganas specially 2001, 2011, almost entire S 24
parganas, some parts of barddhaman, parts of Haora, Kolkata have > 40 faraway
water source. Otherwise remaining 10-30 5 faraway source.

2011 CP > 12 have more than two or one person as also SP except S 24
paragans. All districts of CIR have less tha 45 % hhlds having 5 and 5+ hhlds.
This is not for wp, himnalayan, Ep.
Main source of lightingAvg. households 20-30 % in CP and to some extent in SP have major source
lighting electricity, only Asansol sub division, parts of haora most kolktaa > 50
electricity as major source lighting 2001. 2011 mostly entire CP, SP have graeter
than 50 % using electricity as major source of lighting , except S 24 paragans,.
Kerosene
In 2001 EP, mostof WP, himalayn have > 80 %, 50-80 % usung keroisene as
major lighting source. CIR Mostly districts have less than 50 % kerosene , except
S 24 praganas and barddhaman > 50-80 %. 2011, CIR Bardhaman and S 24
paragnas 35-50 dependence on kerosene, rest districts less than 35 % on
kerosene.

Most of sasnoslo sub-diviidon, kOkktaa, haora, hugli use less than 35 5 keroene
as major soyurce of lighting, rest 35-50 %use kerosene, barraing most of units
ion S 24 pragaans, > 80 5 use kresoene as major source of lighting.
Latrine facility within premises
2001 EP, WP > 75 no latrine, himlayan 50-75 , CIR- CP except bardhaman, S 24
praganas 50-75 , remaning have > 55-50 , > 50 (kolktaa) latrine, 2011 CP 2550 no latrine, also SP except Kolkata, N 24 paragans < 25 %.
Most of koktaa, N 24 oraganasm, Haora ahave latrine within premises > 75
%,2011 bardhaman 45-60 5, asansol sub-division > 75 %, remaining 35-6 %.
Most of asansol sub-ddviisio, kolkata conurbation (kolktaa, haoara, hugli, N 24
paraaans) have > 30 % bathaing facilities within premses, S 24 pragaans mostly
less than 6 5, otherunits vary from 6 to 22 %.
No drainage facility within premises
Barring bardhaman and kolktaa < 55 % , most districts in Cir have 55-65 % no
drainage, S 24 prgaans 75-85 % 2001. 2011 same trend almost, barddhaman,
Kolkata, N 24 pragans < 55 %, remaining CP 55-65 %, S 24 pragans > 75 % no
drainage. Mostly WP. > 85 no drainage, Epand to less extent ion Himalayan have
greater degree of no draianage within premises.
Using LPG/PNG for cooking as fuel
EP, Wp, to some extent in himalayn have < 5 to 5-10 % only LPG in 2001. CIR- CP
10-20 % only except Haora > 20 , Kolktaa, N 24 paraganas > 20 %, except S 24
paraganas 5-10 % only. 2011 except barddhamna, S 24 praganas, alla 4 have >
20 % lpg, they have 15-20 to 5-10 % only.
2011 Similar asansol sub dibsviison, kokata conurbation > 14 % LPG as major
cooking fuel, raemining 2-10 %, except most opd S paraganas, < 2 . Drastic
improvem,net from 20011 when most units ahd less than 2 % using LPG.
Cowdung as fuel
Sp less than 15 %, Sp alos same Kokkata < 5 % 2001. In 2011 bardhaman 15-20
%, reamianing 5-10 % only, while Haora, hoogly, N 24 parganas have less than 5
% using such source a sfuel.
20111- Asansol sub-division, kokata conurbataion almost entire kolkataa,a
haoraam, hugli, N 24 paragaanas, have less thana 5 % using cowdung as major
source of cooking fuel.
Parts of batrdhamanan , S 24 paraganas > 20 % still use cowdung.
25-50 % in CIR unitsmostluy use firewood as major cooking fuel except asanasoln
sub-division, Kolkata(< 25 %), 2011. Most units in Cir do not use keroisen efor
cooking purpose (< 0.25 %), only parts of Kolkata (> 2,51 %)n use such fuel of
kerosene for cooking.2011.

Most units in Sp, and also Kolkata have graeter than 45 % having access to
banking services, S 24 paragans and parats of N 24 paraganas have 15-25 varied
sjhares. 20p111. Avg, most units in the CIR in 2001 had only 25-35 % access to
banking services.
Most units in 2001 had 30-50 % access to radio/transistor, in 2011, mosrtly ,
almost entire state had less than 20 5 asccess to radipo/transmitter.
In 2001, bararing asansol sub-diiviison and Kolkata conurbation (> 40 %
), remaining units in CIR mostly had 10-30 % access to TV in 2001.barring S 24
paraganas < 10 %). 2011- this improved especially in WP, avg, units in CIR
improved shae from 20-30 to 30-40 % . same trend for Asansol sub-division and
koktaa conurbation.
Most of S 24 paragans and some parts of N 24 pragans a salos kokata had < 40
% units access to bicycle in 2011. Remaining units in CIR had > 70, to 50-70 %
units having bicycle.
Only asansol sub-division and kolktaa conurbation had 10 and > 10 % units
having scooter/ motorcycle/moped, while remaining units had mostly 5-10 %, S
24 parganas had less than 2.5 % such vechicles. 2011 Only parts of Asnasol subdivison, kolktaa conurtbation have some car/jeep/van have > 2. 51 % of such
units.reamining unirsv mostly 1-2.51 %.
Almost siimiliar trend 2011 for mobile phone hiogh in asansol sub-divsion ,
Kolkata conurbation (> 50 %), remaining 30-40 %, < 30 in some units.
It is found that in 2011 in Asansol, parts of kokata conurbation have > 9 % units
have access to computer/laptop 2011, other units mostly 5-7 %, S 24 paragnas ,
parts of western Barddhaman < 5 %.
2011 Aswansol sub-division and Kolktaa conurbation have > 2 % units having
mobile/landline/telebiison/computer/laptop, scooter/car, remaining units have
mostly 0.51 1 %. S 24 praganas has < 0.50 % units having lack of access to
such assets.
In 2001 Most units in CIR 20-30and 30-40 % have not any od the specified assets
barring partsd of Asnasol sub-d-vision (Asdansol), Kolkata conurbation > 20 %
only. 2011 entire Aswansol subdivision most of Haora, Kopkta, Hugli and some
parts of N 24 parganas have less than 20 % units not any specified access ti such
assets. Most odf S 24 pargaanas have greatere than 50 % no such access to such
assets.Reamining units have varied access of 30-50 %.

Landline connection less than 3.5 had landline in Cp and Sp vbarring kolktaa>
3.5 5 2001. In 2011, barring barddhaman and S 24 praganas (40-50 %) all had (>
50 %) landline, kolkta > 60 %.

In both 2001, 2011 barring Barddhaman, S 24 parganas, all 4 others had > 5 %
laptop/compy 2001, > 11 % in 2011. Relative share increased between the
decade.
Less than 1 % in EP, mostly WP, and to some extent in Himalayan have TV,
scooter, car, compy, telephone, mobile. CIR CP 2-4 % only, S 24 parganas < 1
%, Kolkata > 4 %.
