Stempeutics has completed pre clinical studies demonstrating the appropriate saf
ety profile of human bone marrow-derived ex vivo cultured adult mesenchymal stem
cells in allogenic settings.
Stempeutics obtained Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) approval for conduc
ting multi centric phase I/II combined double blind randomized allogenic clinica
l trials (on-going) for its two most advanced programs, indicated in acute myoca
rdial infarction (AMI) and critical limb ischemia (CLI). This is the FIRST allog
enic stem cell clinical trial approved in India. A phase 3 study is planned to b
e conducted in India in 2012; another phase III study will be planned outside In
dia. This second phase 3 is likely to be supportive for the registration of the
product in ASEAN countries.
In addition, Stempeutics recently obtained DCGI approval for phase II Clinical t
rial for four indications i.e. chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, liver cirr
hosis, osteoarthritis and diabetes mellitus. In Malaysia Stempeutics got NPCB ap
proval for Cerebral Stroke and Osteo Arthritis phase I/II clinical trials. Stemp
eutics long-term objective is to market its products in the European and North Am

Geena Malhotra completed her Bachelors in Pharmacy in 1985 from SNDT University.
She joined Cipla Ltd. in 1986 as a scientific officer and went on to lead as he

ard" in the year 2007 by the Indian Pharmaceutical Association. She was involved
in diversifying the development of research into areas such as generic health c
are, consumer health care and animal health care and helped setup the bio techno
logy cell to develop in manufacture monoclonal antibodies (MAbs). Her keen inter

aduate days he worked as a lecturer in pharmacology.
Since 1994 he has been working with Cipla Ltd and is currently Medical Director.
He has closely been involved in the development and introduction of several dru
gs in various therapeutic fields particularly HIV/AIDS, infectious diseases and
respiratory diseases. He has worked on several clinical trials in the field of a
sthma and COPD and infectious diseases. He was involved in setting up of the Che
st Research Foundation (CRF). This is now an independent research center dedicat
ed to conducting research in the field of respiratory medicine. He has participa
ted and spoken at several national and international forums and has been activel

the University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and Stanford University Medical Sch
oolHe has worked as a Staff Scientist in Becton Dickinson systems, SanJose and i
n Geneic Sciences, Menlo Park. As a Senior Research Scientist and later as Proje
ct Manager, in Aventis Gencell Hayward, California. Dr. Anish joined Geron Corpo

Dr. Pawan joined Stempeutics on Oct 1st 2008. Before joining Stempeutics, he was
an Associate Professor, Dept of Pathology, Haematopathology & Transfusion Medic
ine, Armed Forces Medical College, Pune. He was also Officer-in-charge for: Spec
ialized Hematological Laboratory which includes morphological diagnosis and coag
ulation parameters of the disease, Molecular diagnosis laboratory for different
hematological disorders, Stem Cell laboratory, Blood Bank, Component laboratory,
Infectious disease screening laboratory and Flow Cytometry laboratory (Haematol
ogy). He had served the Armed Forces for 24 years and he has a vast experience i
n Pathology, Haematopathology, Transfusion Medicine and Stem Cells.

Dr. Ravi is an outstanding scientist having more than 18 years of research exper
ience in the diverse areas of biology. He has joined Stempeutics in March 2010.
Dr. Ravi received Ph.D. degree from Mangalore University, India and pursued firs
t postdoctoral training in the Department of Biology, Mount Allison University,
Sackville, N.B. Canada (2000-2003). Later He joined Albert Einstein College of M
edicine, Bronx, NY for the second postdoctoral training (2003-2006) and then was
promoted to faculty position (2006-2008). In July 2008 he joined Montefiore Med
ical Center/Albert Einstein Cancer Center, New York as a faculty. During his doc
toral and postdoctoral period, he has worked in the areas of microbiology, cell
biology, nano-biotechnology and cancer biology. He has gained extensive experien
ce working with several mammalian cell lines during his last stint in New York.
Ravi has about 40 publications for his credit. He has presented in various natio
nal and international conferences.

Dr Anjan Kumar Das was educated in Calcutta where he obtained the MBBS, MS (Gene
ral Surgery) and M Ch (CTVS) degrees. He spent 25 years in academic medicine ini
tially at the Calcutta Medical College and NRS Medical College, Calcutta and fin
ally with the Manipal Group where he rose to be the Professor and Head of the De
partment of Surgery at SMIMS, Gangtok, and COO of the Central Referral Hospital.
For the past two years he has been directing the clinical research activities o
f Stempeutics Research Malaysia.
Dr Das has rich clinical experience and has been active in research and teaching
in cardiovascular and general surgery and is now bringing his clinical experien

Fermentation Research and Development
The DSIR approved R&D set up at Ankleshwar focuses on the fermentation research
activities. The biotech research activities are focused on biopharmaceuticals li
ke Oncology, Immunosuppresants and anti-infectives.
A modern micro-biology laboratory and Pilot plant for the scale-up of upstream p
rocessing form part of the infrastructure of R&D.
The primary activity of the R&D set up is strain improvement to achieve higher y
ields of biopharmaceuticals. Strain improvement involves mutation of wild strain
s, selection of mutants by random and rational screening.
Significant yield improvements have been achieved in existing products as a resu
lt of strain improvements.
