It is the fisrt community bank of Brazil, created in one of the poorest slums in the northeast of the country, in the

city of Fortaleza.
The initiative of solidarity finance promoted
by Instituto Palmas aims to democratize access to financial and banking services by the
poorest part of population, with wide social
control and participation, mobilization of local
associations, thus fostering community, social
and economic development. The basic principle
is to increase local production and consumption levels.

Palmas e-dinheiro (e-money) is a mobile app , created


in order to provide financial services to whomever
possesses an active cell phone line.
It is a new platform of Electronic Social Currency
and mobile payments 100% developed in Brazil. The
goal is to promote and increase financial inclusion of
people of any economic background, with focus on
low income population.
By establishing the platform, the range of the Electronic Social Currency goes beyond the territory
limits of the community bank, but ensures that the
generated wealth flows back to the community.
*Electronic Social Currency: Is the money that circulates through
the mobile app. It is social because the financial return from
the transactions is directed towards investment in low income
territories.

Palmas e-dinheiro (e-money) was designed for any model of cell phone,
regardless of its mobile provider, and
whether or not it has internet access.
You only need to log in on any cellphone
network, select your contatcs and
start sending and receiving e-money.

The second function of the system, besides transfering e-money, is to work
as a mobile payment device on the
partner stores and service or product
providers.

developed, and will be released right after official

As the service gets popular, a new channel of communication will be stablished. It will allow other
