School Last Week
U12 Super 8 Athletics at Marlowe Academy Our Block 2 athletes were very successful at the recent Super 8 competition. Teams comprised 8 pupils, all of whom had to participate in a track, field and relay event with scores awarded for performances in each event. The girls team led the way beating 10 other local schools, whilst the boys finished 2nd. Overall, Wellesley were crowned champions. Well done all. Rugby Congratulations to Matthew Marson, who was chosen as the Thanet Wanderers Rugby Club under 11's player of the season. He had a fabulous season playing at inside centre and second row and was the unanimous choice of all coaches. Well done, Matthew. JH to Denne Hill Farm JH had an educational visit to Denne Hill farm on 20th May as part of their science topic on food and farming. Mrs Loder-Symonds explained what an arable farm does and showed the children the machinery, grain store and driers, weigh-in bridge, fields of crops and final products. The children found it a fascinating experience and were astounded by what happens to the crops before it reaches the point where it could become food for them. Our thanks to Mr and Mrs Loder-Symonds for a great visit.
Form 2 to Operation Dynamo Ramsgate
We were blessed with perfect weather on Thursday May 21st for the re-enactment of Operation Dynamo, the rescue of troops from Dunkirk by the 'small ships' 75 years ago. Form 2 travelled to Ramsgate harbour with Mr Page, Miss Beaumont, Mr Nichol and Mr and Mrs O'Malley. Apart from the impressive sight of boats of all sizes leaving the harbour, we were privileged to witness a flypast from a Spitfire and a Hurricane. Three- legged walk for Silas Congratulations to Flo Roberts and Phoebe Flood for their successful three-legged walk around Bewl Water Reservoir to raise money and awareness for Silas Pullen, their friend, who died from a brain tumour in December 2013.The girls took five hours! You can still support their cause via www.justgiving.com/3legsforSilas Thank you. Block 3 to France Block 3 had a great day in France, interviewing the locals in French at a large shopping centre, exploring a large supermarket and enjoying sea life at Nausicaa. School This Week Exams There was no Music on Monday due to the Common Entrance exams taking place this week. We wish all of our Block 1 sitting these papers every success. These exams finish on Thursday morning. School exams take place next week for all years except JH, while Block 1 will enjoy a welcome respite on their PGL trip. Sainsburys vouchers Please ask your friends and family if they have any Sainsburys vouchers that you could bring into school. If we can gather a further 200 vouchers we could acquire something quite substantial! Many thanks. My Neighbourhood Competition Do not forget this photo competition organised by Rightmove. The deadline is the beginning of July 2015. All pictures need to be taken in the neighbourhood, at home or at school. There are three categories: Places and Landmarks/People in Context/Activities. To enter, simply attach your picture to an email to jcl@wellesleyhouse.net. Good luck! Orchard Drinks Just a reminder to parents of girls in The Orchard that it is the Nichols 25 Year celebration on Saturday from noon. Hopefully we will enjoy good weather! Kamla Nehru This week we welcome Ms Arvind and Ms Upasana who are both teachers from the Kamla Nehru Public school in India. As English and maths specialists, it is certain that both children and teaching staff will benefit greatly from their visit. This week the kitchen will be serving menu 2.
