Touch-Typing Competition - Tablet Raffle
The touch-typing competition raffle took place this morning.
Every pupil who entered the competition was awarded a
ticket for each entry they made (up to a maximum of ten).
Mr Spencer had the honour of drawing the winning ticket.
Congratulations to Tom Nielson, who is now the proud
owner of a Hannspad. The winners of the individual year
group prizes along with the overall set competition will be
announced in final assembly.
Wellesley Challenge - Final Round
1st Danes
2nd Romans
3rd Saxons
4th Vikings
The first match of the evening was the 3rd & 4th play-off.
This was a comprehensive victory to Saxons, with Vikings
trailing throughout. There were impressive individual
performances from Paddy Fisher (V) who scored 180 points
and Benny Smallwood (S) who scored 170 points.
The final was a much tenser affair with both sets pulling
ahead at different stages of the match. With time running
out and one question to go, the scores were neck and neck,
and so the audience was kept on the edge of their seats right
to the very end.
Friends of Wellesley Quiz
The quiz night was a real success. Questions and guests were
all there for a very enjoyable and sociable evening. Particular
mention should go to Mrs Courage and her committee for
the excellent organisation; to our quiz master, Mr Latteur,
whose questions ensured that competition was fierce right
to the last round and the kitchen staff who again provided a
wonderful meal. Thank you all and to everyone who
supported the event.
Squash v Tonbridge U14 Lost 1 4
The match was much closer than the score suggests. Billy
had a great match at number 1, beating his opponent
comfortably. Islay gave her tall, strong opponent a good
match, losing 8, 6, & 8 and giving him a bit of a scare along
the way. Ed led 2 0, but could not hold off his opponent,
losing 9-11 in the 5th. Angus and Benny struggled against
their stronger opponents, although each game was hard
fought.
Peter Snow
Last Tuesday, 13 lucky pupils travelled to Canterbury with
the Headmaster and Mrs OMalley, the Chairman of
Governors (Mr Woodhouse), Mr Page, Mr Kearns and Miss
Beaumont to hear Peter Snow give a talk on the Battle of

Waterloo as part of the Waterloo 200 commemorations.

Many parents were also in the audience. During the talk
several of our pupils were invited on stage to re-enact the
battle and afterwards we all stood in the background as
Peter Snow gave a live interview to BBC South Today.
Denne Hill
Great credit must go to the determination of the runners at
Denne Hill on Saturday. The children taking part gave their
all and were encouraging one another to help their Set.
Tobey Turl finished in 1st place winning the Fallon Cup.
Araminta Loxton-Barnard took 2nd place and won the girls
shield. Billy Miles finished in 3rd place. Cyrus Moreland was
the fastest U11 winning the Chamberlain Cup, whilst
Romans collected the set prize. We are very grateful to the
Loder-Symonds family whose generosity allows us to hold
this event in such wonderful surroundings and to all those
parents who contributed to the refreshments which were
much enjoyed by all.
Cross-Country
Earlier in the week some of the children warmed up for
Denne Hill with a cross-country event at Kent College,
Pembury. Fleur Rex won her event and Ashton GiffordGroves finished in 3rd place. Well done to you both.
Regionals
Congratulations to Lucy Henderson and Antonia Dilkes who
were part of the successful U12 Canterbury hockey team
that won the Kent County hockey tournament over the
weekend. They had to play 6 matches to qualify, beating
Sevenoaks in the semi-final and Marden Russetts in the final.
We look forward to hearing how they get on at the national
event.
Swimming
Congratulations to Ashton Gifford-Groves who finished in
6th place in the 50m breaststroke the U11 event of the
Kent Championships. Ashton is U9.
