Message
from the
Bishopric
Brother Jeremy Hughes
2nd Counselor

Sisters,

Dear Brothers and

!
We have be enriched
this past weekend by listening to General
conference, and I am so grateful for the spiritual
boost it gives me as I go back and study the talks
that I felt were specifically for me.
!
Something that I also enjoy listening to is
the choirs that perform during General Conference.
What a gift and blessing it is to have music.
Uplifting music can comfort, inspire, teach, testify,
encourage, motivate, and bring joy and hope to
each of us. What I enjoyed most while listening to
the choir sing during conference, was the spirit that
was felt through the music and lyrics.
!
We can invite the spirit in many ways on
Sunday such as participating in scripture study and
discussions. We can also feel of the spirit as we
participate in singing hymns during sacrament and
other church meetings.
When we sing hymns
during sacrament meeting, we are worshipping,

honoring, and showing respect to our loving

Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ.
!
Not all of us have been given the gift of
being musically talented, but regardless, it is
important to lift up our voices in praise to our
Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. We can show our
children the importance of singing the hymns and
invite them to feel of the influence and spirit felt
through singing hymns and primary songs, as we
too sing.
!
Jay E. Jensen, of the First Quorum of the
Seventy testifies of importance and influence music
and hymns play in our lives. He says, My
testimony and conversion to the restored gospel
were strongly influenced by singing the hymns of
Zion as a young boya flood of sweet memories
fills my mind. Among them is the converting
power of the hymns we sang in priesthood, Sunday
School, and sacrament meetings. My experiences
were similar to that of President Hinckley when, as
a deacon, he attended a stake priesthood meeting
with his father. They sang Praise to the Man.
Later he would say, I had an impression that has
never left, that Joseph Smith was indeed a prophet
of God.
!
We all have hymns that are our favorites,
that have special meaning and even memories to
each of us, and what is common to us all is the
spirit can be felt as we listen to or sing hymns of
worship.
With Love
Brother Hughes

Relief Society/Priesthood Dinner

The Relief Society hosted a
combined Relief Society Priesthood dinner
on March 26th. It was in honor of the Relief
Society birthday. The food was pot luck
style and was delicious as always. Many
members turned out and enjoyed the good

food and visiting

with friends. The
crowning moment of the
evening was the talk given by our new Stake
President, President Beus. He spoke on the
influence that women can have on helping the
priesthood and the men who hold the
priesthood. He spoke of his dear wife Marcy,
and how she supports and compliments him.
We are in good hands with this new Stake
President. It was a wonderful evening and
very uplifting. Our thanks go out to the ladies
and gentlemen who make activities like these
available to all of us!

Missionary Corner
We are so excited to have Kameron Clark as the newest
member of our ward. He was baptized on March 21st.
Kameron is the grandson of Sister Cindy Dunagan. He
is 16 years old and has been going to mutual for the last
few months. The young men love having him in their
quorum because he is happy, fun, and excited to be
there. Kameron was baptized and confirmed by his
friend, Connor Christensen, who is preparing to leave
for his mission shortly. How wonderful that these boys
help each other and support one another.

Mission Call
Elder Billy Masten -

Billy Masten has been called to the Boise

Idaho Mission and will report on July 1st. Isnt it just
wonderful that these boys can put their papers in
while they are still in school and leave the summer
after they graduate. It is an exciting time for them.
Billy opened his papers at his home with a bunch of
family and friends there to watch as he opened them.
Everyone was happy, happy when he read he was
going to Idaho! Is there a better place for a farm boy
like him? Congratulations Billy! We are all excited for
you!

her. All of her older siblings are loving having a new baby.
Eliana is especially excited because she will be baptized
next month and Kinsley will be blessed at the same time.

Stake Mission Statement

!
This past month we were able to enjoy a
stake conference, ward conference and a general
conference. It has been a feast for our spirits to be
sure. Our Stake Presidency introduced the Stake
Mission Statement at the stake and ward
conferences. It is a three- fold statement that will
bring unity and strength to our stake. The
mission is:
1.

2.
3.

Strengthen Individuals and Families

through meaningful scripture study and
family home evening
Receive and renew your endowments in
the temple.
Improve your gospel teaching and
learning in the Saviors way.

If we do these things, we will all be happier,

stronger, and more like our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Lets all take this opportunity to try harder in
each of these areas.
Page 6

This last month, the cub scouts and their

families had pack meeting at The Beehive House
on the highway. This was a wonderful opportunity
for the cub scouts to get to know their elders.
Sister Lee started the night off with a "get to know
you" game. The boys found out that some of the
residents had some interesting stories. One
grandma had caught a 60 pound salmon in Alaska
when she was younger and had seen a bear close by. Another was a mother of 15 children.
The question was asked if anybody had a horse and carriage but no one raised their hand. We
had a few who had horses though! The residents received candy if they raised their hand with
an answer. The boys then sang a few songs and we closed with handing out cookies and silk
flowers to the residents. It was an enjoyable evening for everyone!

Activity Days
--Article and pictures submitted By Leader Lynn
Smith via Facebook

The sister missionaries came to

activity days on March 24th . They taught
the girls about the Articles of Faith.
Thank you for your help Sisters!! We
love you!!

Our Amazing

Central Ward
New Beginnings
Article by President Sherrie Greer
Cassidy Brimhall did an amazing job
organizing this years New Beginnings as one
of her 10 hour projects. The theme was D&C
4:2 "Oh ye that embark" The decorations and
refreshments were beautiful! Kalin Larson
will be the only new Beehive this year. We are
so excited for her to join us in December!
Thanks for a job well done Cassidy!

Youth

Priest and Laurel Rock Climbing

Once again our youth are off to
literally new heights!
They all
conquered their fears as
they climbed up and
repelled down cliffs
near Morenci.
Even
Bishop Rob and his
wife Michelle gave it
a try and made it to
the top with success!
The group all learned
the techniques with a
lesson
from Tanner

Ka

an
dy
Shane , Tristie, Co
Pursley who has been teaching
rock climbing up in Idaho for the past three years. One
lesson everyone should remember is to
put your hair in a hat or a ponytail!
Tristie Pursley had her hair get caught
in the rope! Luckily she was just a few
feet from the ground. Tanner says that
if that happens higher up, they just
have to cut the hair off! Besides the
hair, there were no injuries and
everyone had a really fun time. No
fear here!

Tristie is very lucky!

Trebuchet Progress
!
These boys are getting better and better at the skill of
welding. They are excited to make their trebuchet and try their
hand at flame throwing! Maybe in a few weeks? The skill of
welding is an art that they can use the rest of their lives.
