Astronomy is the main pillar for the study of Astrology

Astrology is the study of Astronomy
Astrology is firmly based on the Astronomical calculation of
Astronomy

Astronomy: It is a Science of observing and determining the

motion distance position aspects of planets in the Celestial Sphere
Stars: These are large Spherical bodies which emit light of their own
the brighter stars in the sky appearing in the form of pattern or
shape, this group of stars are called Constellation
Planets: These are the large spherical bodies which are revolving on
their own axis and also round the Sun apart from this 9 other
planets they are:
1. Ravi
2. Budha
3. Shukra
4. Guru
5. Earth
6. Kuja
7. Shani
8. Rahu
9. Ketu
10. Uranus (Indira)
11. Neptune (Varun)
12. Pluto (Yama)
Revolving on their own axis is called Bramana
Moving round the Sun is called Bhagana
The planet far away from the Sun is called Aphelion
The planet which is nearest to the Sun is called Perihelion
Solar System: The solar system consists of planets. Sun is the
center of system and from sun at a different interval of distance are
Budha, Shukra, Earth, Kuja, Jupiter, Shani
Later discovered and added to the solar system are
Harshal/Uranus (Indira), Neptune (Varuna) and Pluto (Yama). The
planet shape and size are varies. All the planets revolve on its own
axis and also round the Sun, it has gravitational power in which it
keeps the planets in a systematically moving round the sun.
The sun with other heavenly bodies such as planets, asteroids,
satellites, comets etc which move round the sun is called as Solar
System

Luminous Planets: Sun and Moon

Non-Luminous Planets: Budha, Guru, Kuja, Shukra and Shani
Shadowly Planets: Rahu and Ketu are the Shadowly planets they
do not have physical bodies like other planets. According to Hindu
Astrology Rahu and Ketu have more influence on the human body
at the time of birth
When the Moon is in the orbit around earth travels towards North
Pole or North Latitude the point where it cuts the Elliptic (Sun
path) is a sensitive point this point is called as Rahu in our mind
astrology
Similarly where the Moon is in orbit around the earth cuts the
elliptic or South Latitude is called as Ketu. These two points are
always at 1800. Rahu and Ketu always move in Anticlockwise or
Backward direction.
In western Astrology Northern Node is called as CAPUT or Dragon
Head and for Ketu Southern Node is called as CAUDA or Dragon
Tail.
Harshal, Neptune and Pluto these 3 planets are not considered in
Hindu Astrology because they are very far away from the Sun and
also very very slow in motion. Pluto planet is the most distance
from Sun and is nearly 40 times the earth distance from the sun
and it takes on average of 248 years to complete the circle of the
Sun.
Budha is the most Nearest to the Sun, Small in shape and hot.
Venus is also a hot planet. Jupiter is the largest planet and Saturn is
the furtherest from Sun and also from Earth.
Moon is the nearest planet to the Earth. Earth has a Upagraha
called as Moon
Movement & Motion of the Planet: The planet except Rahu and Ketu
perform the double function. They revolve on their own axis from
West to East and also round the Sun.
Average Motion of the each Planet: It is very useful at the time
preparing a birth chart on certain days actual motions are slightly
varies some time it goes fast and some time it goes slow, the planet
while revolving around the Sun owing to cosmic influence becomes
somewhat irregular in their movement.
Sun: Sun moves at the rate of 10 per day of the Zodiac Rashi
composed of 24 hours and take 365 days and 6 hours to complete
the zodiac

Moon: Moon takes on average rate of 1 hour 48 minutes to go

through a degree of space. Moon takes 29 days to go around the
Earth
Mars: Mars moves on average rate of 1 days per degree or 450 for
300
Mercury: He moves at an average of 1 days per degree but there
is difference between the movement of Mars and Mercury
Mercury is very close to the Sun and due to the solar influence his
movement is very unstable. He complete the average run in 27
days. He hardly takes to a degree per day but moves very quickly
for sometime gets infront of the sun
He begins move slowly goes backwards from the Sun but in this
double action Mercury never get more than 280 from Sun
Jupiter: Jupiter is allotted 1 year in each Sing of 300 but it is found
that he takes 12 years to complete a circle 3600 but it is found he
stays less than 1 year
Venus: Venus moves at a rate of 10 per day in a zodiac Rashi
Saturn: Saturn takes 30 months or 2 years to move a zodiac
Rashi or 300 and thus he takes 1 month to a 10 in a Rashi and 30
years to complete a Zodiac
Rahu & Ketu: Rahu and Ketu both always moving in reverse or
backward direction and takes 18 months to complete 300
Planets takes time to go around the Sun
1. Mercury 88 days
2. Moon 29 days
3. Venus - 255 days
4. Mars 687 days
5. Jupiter 12 years

JYOTHISHA PRAVESHA

The effect of a natural benefic or malefic in nature, natural benefic like

Guru, Shukra, Chandra and Budha becomes malefic and even death in certain
Lagna on account of their ownership of a bad house, while malefic like Shani &
Kuja becomes benefic par excellence by virtue of the ownership of good and
auspicious houses.
Lord of Trikon Bhavas are always auspicious. The Trikona are 1,5,9
houses and the 1st being Trikona and Kendra houses. When a benefic planet
occupies a Kendra Houses (1,4,7,10) they will not give good results. When a
malefic planets occupies Kendra Houses they give good results.
Example: Mesha Lagna and Lord of Mesha is Kuja and 8th House being Vrischik
since Kuja being Lord of Kendra and Trikona Bhava will become Yogakaraka.
Another principle is that all good or evil planets by their lordship become
more powerful as they are lords of 1,4,7,10 houses and 1,5,9 houses and
3,6,10,11 (Upachaya), 4th House is stronger than 1st House, 7th House is stronger
that 4th House, similarly 9th House is stronger than 5th House, 9th House is
Strongest and 3rd House is Least powerful.
Example: Mithuna Lagna 11th House Mesha and 6th House being Vrischik as Lord
of 11th House he gives good result for the Mesha as the Lord of 6th House he will
creates death, deceases, enemies this is how to follow the prediction.
For Chara Rashi 11th House is the Bhadhaka for Sthir Rashi 9th House is

The Karanas: In my opinion the approach behind Karana names and corelating it with the natives nature is simple. The results be Similar to meaning
of Karna names :) Some example description is given below. I am giving the
other poplar names of those karana (duty; proper for word) names in bracket
for the people who are not familiar with the original name to understand the
same.
There is a total of 11 Karanas - 7 Chara Karna and 4 Sthira Karana. Chara
means moving and Sthira means fixed. Possibly Chara Karanas got that name
because they repeat cyclically, and Sthira Karanas got that name because they
dont repeat.

Chara Karanas: 1. Bava, 2. Balava 3. Kaulava, 4. Titila, 5. Gara, 6. Vanija, 7.

Vishti

Sthira Karanas: 1. Sakuni, 2. Chatushpat, 3. Naga, 4. Koustubha. What does

these Karna names mean? Are these words of Sanskrit origin? Does they provide
some clues regarding the result derivation? These doubts would be clarified in
the next section.
