2. About Us
Stansted Laboratories began trading in 1992 when Bhartu
Patel set up a small water testing laboratory in Barking,
East London. Twenty years on theres a team of 20 staff
analysing over 25,000 samples a year in a purpose built
facility.
We operate throughout the UK from our base in Barking,
East London ideally situated on the A13 between the North
/ South Circular Road and M25. In addition there are three
refrigerated sample drop-off points in Central London
near Oxford Street, Shoreditch E1 right by the City and
Dartford, Kent close to the M25. Sample results are now available in real time via our secure online
portal.

In recent years the water testing marketplace in the UK has seen big multinational companies
increasing market share by cutting the price of analysis to levels that are often below-cost. This has
presented challenges to a relatively small independent laboratory like ourselves.
However, providing an analysis service is not just about a cheap sample cost clients often need
guidance regarding their legislative duties in accordance with HSG 274 and HSE L8 2014 including
which tests to carry out and then help interpreting the results. Accordingly, Stansted Laboratories
ability to provide meaningful consultative back-up has encouraged loyalty from our customer base
and proved that reliability, trust and a personal service are still currencies that are valued as much
as the ability to cut cost alone.
Our internal company culture can be summarised by a desire to deliver value for money rather
than just a cheap price.

4. Getting Samples to the Laboratory

There are a variety of options to help you get samples back to the laboratory as easily as possible:
- Dropping off direct at the laboratory
- Sending by post
- Dropping-off at one of our three refrigerated drop-off points
- In-house courier pick-up from designated location
- Sending back to us via DHL nationwide courier
4.1 Dropping off direct at the Laboratory

If you'll be arriving outside of our normal opening times, there is a box-seat located by the front
door of the laboratory with a cooler box inside. Please let us know in advance so we can ensure
there are fresh ice packs in the boxes. As usual all samples must be accompanied by a completed
Sample Submission Sheet.
4.2 Sending by post

Please ensure samples are safely packaged and accompanied by a completed Sample Submission
Sheet. Samples for Bacteriological analysis are NOT suitable for postage as analysis must be carried
out within 24 hours.

4.3 Dropping off at refrigerated sample drop-off point

There are three secure refrigerated sample drop-off points in and around the capital to help you
get samples back to the lab, while still meeting the required conditions for sample transit.
Refrigerated drop-off locations:

2. SHOREDITCH - Old Montague Street E1 5NG
3. DARTFORD - Powder Mill Lane, Dartford DA1 1NT
PLEASE NOTE : It is essential that you let us know in advance whenever you're dropping off samples
at one of our drop-off points. Please call the office on 020 8594 5104 and you'll be given a unique
code to include on the paperwork.
There are various specific instructions for each site so please read the following information
carefully. If you need to clarify anything give us a call.

ADDRESS
Charlotte Street News, 66 Charlotte Street, London W1T 4QE. The newsagent is located close to the
junction with Tottenham Street.
PARKING
Meter controlled parking bays are available in the surrounding streets.
NEAREST STATION
Goodge Street tube (Northern Line) is 2 mins walk.
ACCESS TIMES
Samples can be dropped off with the staff at this newsagent any time from 7am to 6pm Monday to
Friday, however please note the deadline for dropping-off Bacteriological samples on a Friday is
12noon. A member of staff will then place the samples in a refrigerator until they are returned to
the laboratory for analysis.
INSTRUCTIONS
The sample bottles should be packed in a suitable container / plastic bag. You must include a
separate sample submission sheet for each site - you can use your own submission sheets or one
of ours, available on request. Before dropping samples off please call 020 8594 5104 to get your
unique job reference number which must be included on the paperwork with the samples.

2. SHOREDITCH
ADDRESS

junction with Brick Lane.

Aldgate East tube is 5 mins walk.
ACCESS TIMES
Samples can be dropped off with the staff at this newsagent any time from 9am to 6pm Monday to
Friday, however please note the deadline for dropping-off Bacteriological samples on a Friday is
12noon. A member of staff will then place the samples in a refrigerator until they are returned to
the laboratory for analysis.

3. DARTFORD
ADDRESS
Tickover Garage, The Old Powder Mill, Powder Mill Lane, Dartford, Kent DA1 1NT - within 2 miles of
M25 junctions 1b and 2. The fridge is located in a shed outside the garage.
PARKING
Free parking available on site - turn into Powder Mill Lane at eastern end via Darenth Road. Take
first left signposted 'The Old Powder MIll' into driveway pictured above and park up after 50 yards
before the road starts to bear down to the right. On your right you'll see an opening through a
hedge which leads down some metal steps. At the bottom of the steps to the left is the shed.
NEAREST STATION
Dartford mainline (Network Rail, Southeastern) is 15 mins walk.
ACCESS TIMES
Samples can be dropped off at this location 24/7. However please note the deadline for dropping
off Bacteriological samples on a Friday is 12noon.

4.4 In-house courier pick-up from designated location

AREA
This service is available within the M25 and surrounding area at our discretion. The van is equipped
with electric cooler box to maintain samples between 2 to 8C in transit.
AVAILABILITY
Monday to Friday during normal office hours.
INSTRUCTIONS
To ensure pick-up at the time you require please give us 24 hours notice so we can schedule our
drivers route accordingly. Call us on 020 8594 5104 to book your pick-up and we will give you a
unique job reference number to include with the paperwork.
COST
Pick-up is FOC.
4.5 Sending Samples via DHL Nationwide Courier

AREA
DHL operate throughout the UK.
AVAILABILITY
Monday to Friday. Please avoid sending us samples for Bacteriological analysis on a Friday as they
will need to be analysed on a Saturday which in turn will incur additional costs.
INSTRUCTIONS
There are two options:
1. Ring the office 020 8594 5104 by 12noon to book a remote pick-up from a specified location. You
will need to give us the full address and post code, a contact name / telephone number and let us
know the latest time the samples can be picked up. Samples must be packed safely in a box as
loose bottles will not be accepted. For Bacteriological analysis samples must be packed in a cooler
box or bag with ice pack. We can send you a cooler box in advance if required.
2. Drop-off the samples at a DHL drop-off point. DHLs delivery service is available at selected
Ryman, Staples, WHSmith, Access, Safestore and Homebase stores, as well as 100s of independent
stores nationwide. Find you nearest drop-off here: http://parcel.dhl.co.uk/dhl-service-point/about
Please note for Bacteriological analysis you will need to pack the samples in a cooler box or bag
with ice pack and specify the 'DHL Domestic Express 12:00 option guaranteeing delivery to us by 12
noon the next day. We can send you a cooler box in advance if required.
COST
The cost for this service is 20+VAT for packages up to 10kg.
