A letter of action to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya

Dear Mr. President

I trust that this letter finds you well.
If you get a chance to read this, I just want to let you know how I am disappointed with
myself for waking up 5.am in the morning to vote for you. I do not blame you, I blame
myself for believing that you could rise above your silver spoon and transform Kenya.
You must want to know why I am disappointed.
1. Between the fertilizer plant and the standard gauge railway, which is supposed to be
completed already? The answer is that over 10 million Kenyans, including me, are
on the verge of starvation every year. Maybe you do not know that Mr. President!
2. It is 4 months since the agriculture CS was suspended and you will not replace him
in time. NCPB bought maize at KES.2800 and is selling at KES.2300 during this
time. Subsidized fertilizer for the short rains is in the procurement stage, yet, the
rains have already started in most parts of the country. So, who does the fertilizer or
the government as a whole serve?
3. The sugar industry, the pastoralists, Land, I hope I can say anything about these
things.
4. The agriculture ministry has not commissioned any storage facility. The government
is not commissioning enough cold stores making perishables like meat, fish,
vegetables, and fruits extremely expensive for a common Mwananchi. Malnutrition
is so rampant when there is plenty for everyone.
Rather than dwell on this and many reasons why I am disappointed, let me trust that I was
not wrong and focus on what you can do. Notice that I have only focused on agriculture
and food security.
I am recommending myself for the vacant position of Cabinet Secretary for Agriculture.
These are the reasons

1. I do not have experience at top-level ineptitude, embezzlement, corruption, looting

or stealing of public funds. I am a hardworking Kenyan farmer who believes that
Kenyans have no right to know what starvation smells like.
2. The former CS or all the existing CSs, none of them have an individual strategic
plan since their appointment. So anyway, I will not be the most unqualified CS in
the country nor the most unworthy of this position.
3. You must ask me what I think of the good professors and think tanks in the
ministry and how I intend to work without insubordination. I want to remind you
just what happened a while ago when your trip to America was botched after
learning that your plane was headed into a warzone. It is not yet a classic in terms of
ineptitude and most probably, a product of half millennium of corruption; it can
suffice as an example of the people you have entrusted with your administration. At
the very least, I have the goodwill to surpass loads of experience and intellectual
capacity currently being used for cosmetic purposes.
4. Since our constitution invites all Kenyans to partake in the government functions,
Mr. President, take this opportunity to have the poor represented. I am not a classic
definition of poor, but I believe I am closest to poverty compared to those you
naturally award the position.
5. Making me the Agriculture and Livestock and Fisheries Cabinet Secretary is a
burden to me, it will not be a token or a thank you to appease my tribe. The only
tribe I wish to be associated with is that of the Kenyans who are trying to rise
despite their obvious disability in the name of poverty and poor policies. Do not
abandon the poor, who even the church has recently abandoned.
Yours Sincerely
Simon Gitau
