United Nations Education Scientific and Cultural Organization. UNESCO is an

organization that goes beyond the idea that political and economic reasoning are all that
are needed for peace among nations. The mission of this organization is to build
bonding relationships among nations. These bonding relationships must be
incorporated through morality and unanimity.
UNESCOs aspirations are accomplished by seeking to provide education for all
that wish for it. Education is a vital tool to building societies as whole. The acceleration
of an area as a whole cannot fix its problems if its people are ignorant to these
problems. But instead an area can have all of its doors of potential open when
education is provided for the masses.
Another mission of UNESCO is to protect freedom of expression. Freedom of
expression is needed to develop a stable society as a whole. If people are restricted
from their beliefs and interests, a healthy environment will not be possible. People as
whole need to be able to express their aspirations and thoughts towards problems, as to
work together for ideal solutions. If these thoughts are prevented, turmoil and an
imbalance in power can result.
Building scientific co-operation among nations is a keen motive for UNESCO as
well. Such a collaboration aids in planning of natural disasters of certain areas. This
cooperation is also used to distribute water and resources among certain terraces.

UNESCO considers the preservation, acknowledgement, and protection of

culture and heritage a huge value to human life. UNESCO sought to make these known
and managed on an international level. Further, they built the Convention concerning
the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage treaty; which is often called
the World Heritage Convention. This treaty urges countries to sign the treaty. Upon
signing up, the protection of the countrys heritage and culture will be an ensurement.
The World Heritage Convention created the World History List. This list states up
to 1030 different properties and the status of them by color. The whole idea is related to
an endangered species list. Countries are arranged under priority of danger by color.
For example, Venice is considered a culture site, not an endangered one. There will be
a back and forth communication so as to maintain these aspects of the society; even to
come up with plans of emergency assistance .
The World Cities Programme, a programme approved and monitored by the
World Culture Committee, seeks to work with higher-ups to help with protecting and
managing the heritage of a land. If such a cause did not exist, cities would develop and
develop while lightly squeezing out there cultural ethnicity. An example of this is the
tourism problem in Venice, Italy. Venice has been having a steady decline of population
for the best few decades. Due to this drop, the city has reformed to orientate itself
towards tourism. Eventually though the pressures of tourism have become so high that
the city is losing its culture and heritage. Buildings and activities for the visitors are
popping up more and more. The mass amount of people are making the lives of the
natives much harder. It has become so bad that the people of Venice are trying to limit
these numbers of tourists. Another problem with Venice is the wakes caused by passing

boats, and the high tides that come along. These water phenomena cause grave
damage to the walls of the multi-island city. There are proposals to create mobile flood
gates. It can therefore be deduced the Venice and its lagoon are a part of the World
Heritage List.
If such an establishment, like UNESCO, hadn't exist, many countries and cities
would be of diminishment in culture and heritage. Luckily though, such an organization
exists so as to augment these fundamental values for humanity. It is becoming more
and more understood that nations can only strive if they work together while retaining
their own personality. The world cannot function just based off of economy and politics.
That's how wars start.
