As was his custom ,halting his Thar for a bit on the roadside, a quick detour and Jarnail
Singh ( or JS Saab as he was commonly known ) visited the Gurudwara for a quick
matha tekna and he was on his way to the duty.He was returning back from an
vacation halved by immediate orders to report to the front.
Last glimpses of his family still seemed to dance in front of his eyes.his daughter ,
already a teenageron her way to a football match .a distinctly not so common trait
that she had picked during their sojourn in Kursiang. North east being the cradle of
football in india, an fads being quickly adopted by the in crowd.
He missed Kursiang, the depth and the scenic beauty of the mountains never ceased
to amaze him...
A third generation soldier he came from a family of fighters and the family lineage
could be traced back to the army of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Though his father was
more of a Gandhian rather than Bhagat Singh type of soldier

The proud and very adamant Sardar Sardara Singh. Still very proud and royal despite
the fact that most of their land and factories had stayed back in Pakistan along with
most of their money
SSS steadfastly refused freedom fighter pension and after a brief struggle found his
niche as an exporter of purses , artefacts anything and everything under the sun,
whatever be the flavour of the season. Two things about him stayed constant despite
all the changes that the changing political landscape had wrought in his life ; his pride
and his refusal to waste money , given the lifetime of saving and providing for his
dependents in some very difficult times. This gave him some odd quirks like his
insistence to cycle miles for work or now running errands.n not buying a scooter ,
even if he could well afford it habit and health he insisted.age notwithstanding.
SSS considered spending time with his grand children to be the most important duty
( everything was duty or waste of time.time was always divided in to these two
boxes)
Veera Zara Jaggu Heer .the kids would spend hours playing pitto , chupan chupai n
kanche with their friends
India was at a stage when its population was always increasing .money or no
money.& SSS s family was considered nuclear by the standards of those time when
half a dozen was a norm n dozen the pinnacle.n really early marriages made it
possible!
The present suddenly intervened in his reverie with the salaam sahibs. The briefing
centre was chaotic which was the norm .but there was also an eerie something in
the air, which was not
China had .with all its inscrutable wisdom decided to attack..
