SolidWorks Surface Create iPhone 3G
Hello all my friends, I will try to write a tutorial on SolidWorks surface again now because a lot
of asking me to discuss about the surface. Were knocking two things out here at once. This is a
perfect example of using simple surfacing features in SolidWorks to create an iPhone model used to
develop a case (or other iPhone accessory). For this, you have a small amount of data to start from and a
short amount of time to get it done. Pretty typical of a real project. Here we go.
1. Create Skecth
Create Sketch In Front Plane with dimension like picture bellow.

2. Extrude Surface
Extrude a Surface (Insert, Surface, Extrude). Use a Midplane extrusion at 53.67mm

3. Create Sketch For Swept Surface

Before create sketch, create a plane (Insert, Reference geometry, Plae) at the of profile(Select
front plane and the point) like picture bellow.

Start to create skect at new plane, convert the outermost curve of the extruded surcafe. See the
picture bellow.

Create another sketch on the perpendicular (Top Plane) and sketch the top face of the iPhone.
See picture bellow.

4. Swept Surface
Swept Surface (Insert, Surface, Swept Surface) Select Sketch2 as Profile then select Sketch 4 as
Patch. See picture bellow

5. Fil Surface
To fill the space we can use Filed Surface klik Insert, Surface Fill. First step set the Edge Setting to
tangent. Then select the swept edges, one at a timein order, then select the constant section
curve. In options, make sure Merge Result is NOT Checked. See picture bellow.

6. Mirror

Youre almost there. Go to Insert, Pattern/Mirror, Mirror, select Plane 1 for the Mirror Plane
and select the Surface-Sweep and the Surface-Fill as the bodies to Mirror. See picture bellow.

7. Knit Surface
Now, Knit the surfaces together klik Insert, Surface, Knit.. to get a single surface. See t[picture
bellow.

Thats it. You now have the back of an iPhone you can use to create a case, a dock or other
accessory. If you happen to have another way to create this, please mention it down in
comments. Solidworks is known for having multiple solution to multiple problem.

OK HAPPY READING AND STUDYING
