Volunteers Take Part in Hanovers

Main Street Project
Local photographer, Ethan Bender, gave back to
his community through an exciting endeavor
called the Main Street Project. This project involved photographing 150 Hanover businesses,
free of charge. Businesses were then able to
use the professional photographs for promotional
purposes. Bender photographed St. John

New Audio Visual for Classrooms

Thanks to Trillium ROOTs Grant

The Hanover St. John Ambulance received a $5,000

grant from the Trillium ROOTs Community Fund. The
grant was used to purchase much needed audiovisual
equipment for the training rooms. Thousands of people
receive first aid, CPR and AED training at the Hanover
location each year; including babysitters, industrial
workers, nurses, college students and local businesses.
The equipment is also used by the Medical First Response volunteers for their bi-weekly meetings. Clients
and volunteers appreciate the new televisions with crisp
picture quality, reliable computers for presentation delivery and superior sound systems, all of which have
improved the teaching environment. Branch Manager,
Kathy Murphy Ermel, said, This audiovisual equipment
is invaluable to the learning experience of our students.

New Community Services Vehicle for St. John Volunteers

A 2004 GMC Yukon Denali was anonymously donated
to the St. John fleet of vehicles earlier this spring by an
Owen Sound physician. Additional time and supplies to
service and decal the vehicle were donated by students
at Saugeen District Secondary School, Petes Autobody,
Trimline Enterprises and CFOS Radio. The Denali will
be used by St. John volunteers as they provide service
throughout Grey, Bruce and Huron counties.

St. John Ambulance Medical First Response divisions are seeking volunteers;
launching a targeted drive to recruit high school and college students. St. John
Ambulance received a $3,000 donation from the Grey Bruce Community Foundation to support the initiative, to recruit 10 new active members by the end of 2016.
Youth who are considering a career in health care or emergency services can gain
valuable skills and experience as a volunteer Medical First Responder. During the
first Regional Career and Training Fair at JDSS in Hanover, St. John Ambulance
recruited two new students to the program, and hopes to keep up the pace
throughout 2016. Anyone interested in building their first aid knowledge and assisting in the community is welcome to join. Contact the St. John Ambulance office
in Hanover for more information and to apply.

Therapy Dogs Host First Annual Yard Sale

In May, Therapy Dog members came together for their first annual
yard sale in Hanover. Over $500 was raised for the Therapy Dog Program to support their weekly visits at long term care facilities, hospitals,
and stress relief visitations at area schools. The success of the event
is attributed to generous donations of salable items and the hard work
of the volunteers involved.

and Kaye Parker pose outside the Hanover St. John garage, where the sale was held.

Therapy Dog Trading Cards

This year, the Grey Bruce Huron branch designed and distributed trading cards to Therapy Dog Volunteers. Residents of
the long-term care facilities, where most Therapy Dog visits
take place, really appreciate these mementos. Program coordinator Kaye Parker said, They love having something to remember their furry visitors. The cards include information
about the dog such as their name, breed and favourite toy.
The Therapy Dog handlers enjoy sharing these cards and
promoting the program. To make a donation to support the
Therapy Dog program, please contact the Hanover office.
