Corinth's Complete Count Committee for Cen­


sus 2010 will begin a promotional push Monday [,0

Members of the committee will be at Walmart
on Monday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. to distribute
information about the census. A recruIter tor ~

T he committee's role in the census is promotional ,
and chairman Kim Ratliff of the city's ommunity
Development an d Planning Department said they
want to make sure the message of the importance of
the census reaches all segments of the population.
"We are particularly hard pressed to get informa­
tion to the Hispanic population," he said. .. 'nsuring
that we have vital services available to them is go­
ing to be very much dependent on t heir participa­
tion in the census."
Census fo rms will be arriving in nUlilboxes around
mid-March.
Participation in retu rn ing census questionnaires
trailed the national level in both Mississippi and on
the local level during the 2000 census. According to
the Census Bureau, national participation by mail
in 2000 was 72 percent. Mississippi's participation
by mail was 66 percent, and t he number in Corinth
and Alcorn County was even lower at 62 percent.
