ANOTHER DECISION

Another

come with

no

word received regarding my visa.

Although I have learned that my
visa has been approved, i t has not
yet arrived.

am confident that

my visa will eventually come; but,

I will not make any guesses as to
when.

I have decided to yet again delay

my departure until August 27 (this
yearl). This will allow me to help
with the WSCCVacation Bible School

and with a week of camp at Pleas

ant Valley; I willattend the North
American

Christian

Convention in

Atlanta, Family C am p at Pleasant

Valley,
and WI-NE-MA Week of Mis

sions. If invited, Iwill help with

additional weeks of camp.
I

realize that

my visa

may come

very soon; I also know that i t has

been in process now for 14 months.

It seems best toaccept the invita

thing accomplished this summer.
I
hope you agree.

ON TO CEBU
At last! 1 have my visa to go on to Cebu, Philippines. The long
wait has been because of the processing required to receive a more-orles's permanent 9-G visa, which will allow me to live and work in the
Philippines. It is good for three years and is renewable.
After a Sending Service on Lord's Day evening at West Seattle

Christian Church, I expect to fly out from Sea-Tac Airport on Japan

Air Lines JL009 at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, 27 August.
In Cebu, I will be working with Ray and Imogene Carlson and

Filipino brethren of Cebu Bible Seminary. I expect to begin teaching in

the seminary in early November when the second semester of the 1984-

85 school year begins. It will be good to renew acquaintance with

friends.

During September and October, I will move into a place of my

own, prepare to teach the courses I will have been assigned, and visit

churches in Cebu and the Visayan region of the Philippines. I am

hopeful that I will have opportunities to join Filipino brethren in
evangelistic efforts. Such activities were highlights of my visit there in
1981.

As I go to Cebu, will you pray-wk-h me?

Thanking God for my year at WSCC and the blessings I have

received in being home.
Thanking Him that my visa arrived.
Praising Him for the opportunities ahead to serve Him in Cebu.
Asking Him for safety in my travelboth to Cebu and from
island to island in the Philippines (and, as I again ride a motor
cycle!).

WELCOME TO CEBU -

BY BRETHREN & TYPHOON

My travel from Seattle to Cebu went pretty much on schedule.

During my
two days in Manila, I obtained my AlienCertificate of Registration which
states that I may stay until August 28, 1987.

Perhaps the most memorable part of my travel occurred in Cebu. I was met
by Ray and Mark Carlson and several Filipino friends. We arrived at the
Carlsons' hilltop home about the time that the winds of Typhoon Nitang

began.

Reports of wind velocity ranged up to 130 mph.

The full fury of

the wind seemed to peak diiring Sunday morning when the new jalousy-andsliding glass door section of Carlsons' living room blew out with much
shattering of glass.
But, no one here was injured and the damage was
limited to the front panel and a small part of the roof.
Throughout the
typhoon's path across the Philippines over 1000 died.

Following the typhoon, the Filipino people have been very industrious at
cleaning up and repairing the damage. Many roofs disappeared and numer
ous grass-and-bamboo houses were destroyed.
On the CBS campus, many of
the huge mango trees toppled. However, the damage to buildings was not
great.

I like to say that the brethren arranged a fantastic welcome; Ray says I
brought it with me.

We both count our blessings.

Now that things are getting back normal, I expect to get at finding a
house and other aspects of getting at the Lord's work here in Cebu.
With love, Walt

P.S.:

Thank you very much to all

blessing.

FINDING' A HOtll

When I first arrived in Cebu, I

heard about a
l i t t l e house which

might

become available.

I liked

the looks of it, with its bamboo

exterior.
But it was not going to
be available.

Then I

answered

an

ad

in a

news

paper for an unfurnished apartment

in Cebu City.
When I decided to
rent

it,

learned

that someone

else had already rented it.

I learned about a large house in
Lawa-an. Although much larger than
I need, I thought i t would be OK,

since it

was partly furnished and

near the CBS campus.

But when I
went back for an arranged meeting
to sign a contract, the landlady
did not show up.
Two days later, I learned that the
little
after

house would
all

and

be

available

learned

that i t i s

furnished and all utilities sup

plied for the same rent I would
have paid for the large house.
It
is only two minutes by motorcycle
or ten minutes by foot from the CBS
campus. I have rented it, conclud
ing this is the house I am meant
to have.
