Long Haul Flights

For long haul flights, the executive may be upgraded from Economy
to Business class travel, subject to the conditions stated herein.
(i)

(ii)

Long haul flight is defined as a flight of six (6) hours or more in a

continuous stretch for a single sector, using the same airline /
carrier.

The duration referred to in clause a) (i) above is the difference

between the departure time and arrival time, as shown on the air
ticket issued by the airline. It does not include time spent in
transit or on the ground.
If there is a break in the journey or transit involved, two or more
time periods spent travelling in the air cannot be added together
to achieve the six (6) hours qualifying period.
If the trip comprises of a combination of connecting flights, only
the sector that achieves the six (6) hours qualifying period may
be upgraded.

(iv)

Upon specific instructions from the Head of Business Unit and /

or the Chief Executive Officer, the employees class of travel
may remain at Economy (i.e. is not upgraded). This may be the
case for group travel, or any other circumstances which the
Management / Company deem fit, at its sole discretion.
Compliance
Unless specifically otherwise provided in an employees contract of
employment, the policy on class of travel by air must be adhered to
by all employees.
Any exception must require the specific approval of the Chief
Executive Officer prior to the date of travel, and this would be
decided based on the merits of the case. Any case requiring
dispensation must be recommended by the Head of Business Unit
and is to be routed through the HR Department.

b) Employees who are required to travel by air on Companys business

shall endeavour to optimize cost-benefit in the purchase of an air
ticket, bearing in mind that not all tickets cost the same for the same
class of travel to a given destination. They should always identify
and as far as is possible select the lowest cost option. They should
avoid single-way flight bookings (i.e. the use of different airlines for
departure and return) and flight cancellations and rescheduling
(where costs are incurred).
Unused or Lost Ticket
Unused or loss tickets should be returned / reported to the
authorized travel agent so as to enable re-issuance of ticket or
claim for refund.
