From Your Pastor

Aaaaaand theyre off! I believe thats what the announcer says at the start of every horse race. Ive never
been to a race track, but Ive seen it on television. The
gates open, and the horses take off as fast as they can go,
and for the next couple of minutes, there is a blur of activity and noise. You know how your heart begins to
beat just a little bit faster and your muscles tense up in
anticipation? Thats the way I feel right now, and it is
exciting. Some of you are asking yourself, Whats going on? Well let me explain it this way. We had a great
day of worship yesterday, January 24. The music was
great. The Spirit was obviously present, speaking to our
hearts. And there is a sense of excitement over the fact
that Bro. Ben Tinley is joining our staff as our new Minister of Youth and Family Outreach. Its almost as if its
a new day at Southside Baptist Church!
Could that be possible? Absolutely. Every day is a
possibility to start over again. Actually, every breath we
breathe holds the potential for renewal and restoration.
So thats what Im praying for. A new day! Starting
fresh. Excited about the future. The sky is the limit. But
it will only work if everyone of us listens to the Spirit
speaking to our hearts. It will only work if we recognize
the importance of obeying the Great Commandment
(loving God supremely and loving each other) and the
Great Commission (going into all the world to make
disciples). I have every intention of doing my part in
both of these areas, and I want to challenge you to join
me! Lets love God, each other, and the world to come
together in the power of the Holy Spirit to reach Decatur
and our surrounding communities with the gospel of
Jesus Christ. To quote a famous football coach, Im all
in!
Your pastor loves you,

Bro. Ben

Our children have gotten off to a

fabulous start in 2016! Our Sunday
night class kicked off the new year
focusing on prayer. We've studied
the Lord's Prayer and learned about
the importance of taking time
throughout the day to talk to God.
The children made prayer cubes to
help them with morning prayers to
start their day and prayer journals where they can record
prayer requests as well as prayers of thanksgiving and
praise. In February, we will continue to work on our Bible
skills. We will also be discussing why we need to take time
to read our Bibles daily (and not just on Sundays and
Wednesdays).
Our Awana group is continuing to work hard learning
verses and working through their various books. In February
we are having Popcorn Night (2/3), Spread the Love Night
(2/10), Hot Chocolate Night (2/17) and one of their favorites, Crazy Hair Night (2/24). In case you haven't caught on,
the kids really, really love Awana! They work really hard
and I'm very proud of what they have been able to accomplish. However, none of it would be possible without the
amazing group of men and women who come week after
week to teach, listen to verses, play games, and work with
our children. So a very special thank you to our Wednesday
night workers. Y'all are truly a blessing!
Tanya
