ISB Middle School Innovation Day: One Day, One Goal, One Project

FOR RELEASE February 25, 2016

The International School of Beijing (ISB) will host its second annual Innovation Day on March 25,
giving hundreds of middle school students the opportunity to showcase creativity in the pursuit of
their passions. Under the theme of One Day, One Goal, One Project, Innovation Day promotes
skills at the core of ISBs Learning 21 (L21) curriculum on a day when learning is only limited by
students imaginations.
Working individually or in groups, students will be engaged in various projects for this years
Innovation Day including:

Writing a childrens book

Programming a computer game

Writing and performing a song

Writing and staging play

Creating an app

Choreographing and performing a dance

Creating a Rube Goldberg machine

In the weeks leading up to Innovation Day, students have been brainstorming ideas to develop a
project or product to exhibit to the ISB community. The learning opportunity has allowed ISB to
deepen collaboration within the school community through the involvement of parents as
mentors in fields of their expertise.
ISB Head of School Tarek Razik said the day encourages students to take ownership over their
learning. Innovation Day is about empowering students to pursue their passions in a fun,
stimulating environment. When we align learning with what we already know motivates our
students, the possibilities are endless, Dr. Razik said.
Middle School Principal Jon Hill said Innovation Day allows students to explore their talents and
interests outside their comfort zone in a fun, supportive environment, while also teaching them
skills essential for success in the 21st century.
Were creating a unique space and opportunity for students to create something of substance
they can share with the world. Innovation Day represents the creativity and global-mindedness
we embrace as core values at ISB, said Dr. Hill.
Local media are invited to view students exhibits for Innovation Day on March 25. Interviews with
teachers and students can be arranged with the assistance of ISBs Communications Office. For
