near the heart of the Tower District is a hub
of creative individuals sharing their talents with
the community around them. Its everything
from recording and playing music, to painting,
sculpting, and even rehearsing performances
of all kinds. And theyre inviting anyone whos
willing to come join the fun.

CaKe, is the official name of the
organization. Its short for C.a.K.e. Inc.,
which is really short for Claudio and Khepri
Enterprises Inc. Claudio Urrea is the man
behind the project and Khepri is his daughter.
However, the building CaKe calls home and in
which many artists come to create is called Arts
Club Academy.

We believe that one of the most
important fundamentals in life is the arts. It
is through the arts that we create strong and
meaningful connections with others, and
with the world around us, says Claudio.
The organization is a not for profit arts club
collaborative with a membership base of
artists from many different backgrounds and
areas of focus. Numerous different mediums
are represented at the Arts Club Academy,
including visual, musical and the performing
arts.

The space was designed to give artists
a chance to create unencumbered, with access
to plenty of art supplies, equipment and space
necessary for them to develop their vision as
originally intended. Musicians with a desire
to learn more about recording and sound
engineering dont always have access to the
process simply because all of the equipment
required to do so would be a hefty investment.

Just as those who are working to, or wish to,
create a visual performance may not have the
adequate space needed that would allow them
the full range of motion needed to complete
the project. CaKe offers artists the platform in
which to launch their ideas.

April will mark the 2 year anniversary
at the Arts Club Academy, but the idea has
been with Claudio for much longer. I have
had the concept for this organization for a little
over 6 years now. I bought the domain name,
www.CakeWorldWide.com for the company
back in the beginning of 2012. I spent a few
years trying to figure out the game plan, and
to tell you the truth I was unsure if I would
have enough support to get this concept off the
ground. We also didnt have a place to call our
own, but we finally found it in 2014, which is
also the same year we incorporated.

The inspiration for the idea came to
Claudio through the APERIRE Arts Festival,
a free arts festival that was started in part by
Claudio in 2008. An annual event, APERIRE
was held every April at the formerly

known venue The Babylon until it closed
down due to water damage. Without
a venue, the arts festival was on hold.
But it wasnt just a venue that Claudio
was looking for, it was something much
more. The APERIRE Arts Festival was
a vessel in which creatives could come
together and share their talents, skills and
knowledge with each other, and Claudio
wanted to create that in to a more
constant environment that wasnt just
once a year.

Claudio Urrea has been with the local
music community for over 17 years, bringing
national touring bands and local musicians to
the same stage. In 2001 he created Pachanga
Productions, later he joined with James Big
Game Estrada with Big Game Entertainment
at Big Game Studios, and has even helped to
start a few music venues like Pizza Land by
Ashlan and Marks. Over the years Claudio has
helped to bring big touring acts like Avenged
Sevenfold, Tsunami Bomb and The Aquabats
to Fresno. Managing, booking and producing
these sorts of shows for so many years has
brought him a network of artists, musicians,
performers, engineers, vendors etc. who were
always coming together to create unique
experiences time and time again.

After APERIRE lost its venue and
Big Game Entertainment ceased to exist,
Claudio was struck with a need to create the
Arts Club Academy. Like a lot of things that
come to be, the idea for this amazing place
came from necessity I wanted to create and
establish another place like [Big Game Studios]
where all of my friends and other like-minded
individuals could come together, network and
share their skills with one another, this time

encompassing all forms of art.

Now, Arts Club Academy not only
boasts a healthy membership of artists who
regularly frequent the club, but it is also an
official Fresno Arts Council ArtHop venue.
Art lovers and enthusiasts from all walks of
life flock to downtown Fresno and the Tower
District on the 1st Thursday of each month for
ArtHop. They come to meet and greet with the
artists and enjoy the reception, art, music and
the friendly, fun atmosphere created at the Arts
Club Academy. ArtHop at the club is free to
attend and it is the only time the venue will be
open to the general public, starting from 5pm
and lasting well in to the evening until 9pm.
