MATTheW 11:1-6 (niV)

After Jesus had finished instructing his twelve

disciples, he went on from there to teach and preach
in the towns of Galilee. 2When John, who was in
prison, heard about the deeds of the Messiah, he
sent his disciples 3to ask him, Are you the one who
is to come, or should we expect someone else?
4
Jesus replied, Go back and report to John what
you hear and see: 5The blind receive sight, the lame
walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the
deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news
is proclaimed to the poor. 6Blessed is anyone who
does not stumble on account of me.

PSALMS 137:1-4 (niV)

By the rivers of Babylon we sat and wept when we

remembered Zion. 2There on the poplars we hung
our harps, 3for there our captors asked us for songs,
our tormentors demanded songs of joy; they said,
Sing us one of the songs of Zion! 4How can we
sing the songs of the Lord while in a foreign land?

6:00 p.m.

ACTS 3:1-6 (niV)

One day Peter and John were going up to the

temple at the time of prayerat three in the
afternoon. 2Now a man who was lame from
birth was being carried to the temple gate called
Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from
those going into the temple courts. 3When he saw
Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for
money. 4Peter looked straight at him, as did John.
Then Peter said, Look at us! 5So the man gave
them his attention, expecting to get something
from them. 6Then Peter said, Silver or gold I do
not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name
of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.

Guest Preacher Bio

REV. DR. MICHAEL ERIC DYSON

His speeches and books both provide some of the most significant commentary
on modern social and intellectual thought today, interwoven with a
combination of cultural criticism, race theory, religion, philosophical reflection,
and gender studies. Dyson is a speaker who will never bore audiences; his
presentations are thought-provoking, unwavering and foster social change. His
excitement on the topics he speaks onracial profiling and its impact on black
America, the sociology of hip hop, and Dr. King for the 21st Century, among
othersis contagious.
Dr. Dyson bridges gaps between generations, connecting civil rights identity
to hip-hop culture, while forging links between older and younger Americans,
especially Black Americans. As a cutting edge historian, he educates the
general public on the significance of hip hop, not only in understanding the
black community, but general American culture, as well. With his powerful
voice, Dyson reaches beyond race, addressing the universal commonality of
American concern.

DREAMCATCHER

A film by Kim Longinotto

Saturday, April 30, 2016

2:00 p.m. Sanctuary

Dreamcatcher takes us into a hidden world through the eyes of one of its survivors, Brenda MyersPowell, a former teenage prostitute who worked the streets of Chicago who defied the odds to become a
powerful advocate for change in her community. After a violent encounter with a john, Brenda woke up
in the hospital and decided to change her life. Today she is a beacon of hope and a pillar of strength for
hundreds of women and girls as young as fourteen who want to change their own lives. Dreamcatcher
explores the cycle of neglect, violence and exploitation which each year leaves thousands upon thousands
of girls and women feeling that prostitution is their only option to survive. With warmth and humor,
Brenda gives hope to those who have none. Her story is their inspiration.

Alzheimers Association Resource Symposium

Caregivers for those suffering face special challenges. You are not alone. Whether
you need information about early-stage, middle-stage or late stage caregiving, our
partnership with the Alzheimers Association Greater Illinois Chapter was formed to
bring mission-focused programs and services to new communities and engage in the
fight against a disease that has no cure and disproportionately impacts the AfricanAmerican community 2:1.
Military families are among those diverse populations affected in particular. The
possibility of the increased risk of cognitive aging (due to a unique set of military
exposures) is why Endeleo seeks to identify and support veterans and their families in
the Washington Heights and surrounding communities.
Please join the Endeleo Institute in the Sanctuary following the 11:00 a.m. worship
service for a ceremonial signing of our partnership agreement with the Alzheimers
Association Greater Illinois Chapter, followed immediately by a spirited 90-minute
resource symposium on Alzheimers disease and Dementia. Help is on the way!
