up,butIcouldn"tfindtheminthesupersmallsizethatthisenginerequires.
Thefirstthingyouwanttodowithyourfeelergaugesistakethenutoffandputthefourgaugesyou'llbe
usingrightontop.

bolt.Thepanelpoppertoolwasusefulforgettingthevalvecoverwashersandbreatherhoseoff.I
neededadroplighttoseethetimingmarkandthecamsprocketmarks.Thedrillwithsocketadaptersis
unnecessarybutIgetimpatientturningtheratchet.Therestisselfexplanatory,butIwilllistthemout.

driver'sfrontjackpoint.Letthecardown.

PlugWiresandSparkPlugs
Takethesparkplugwiresoutoftheirholdersandpullthesparkplugbootsout.Thenremovethespark
plugs.Checktheircondition,cleanthethreads,regapthem,putalittlebitofantiseizeonthethreads
forlater.

Startbyfindingtopdeadcenterforcylinder1(closesttocrankpulley).Rotatetheengine
counterclockwiseuntilthe"up"arrowsonthecamsprocketsarefacingup.Thenshinealightdownto
thecrankpulleyfromaboveuntilyouseethepointeronthetimingbeltcoverpointingatthewhitemark
onthepulley.Itdoesn'thavetobeperfect.

theexhaust.Onmyenginethathasprobablyneverhadavalveadjustment,thealltheintakevalves
weretoolooseandtheexhaustvalvesweretootight.Sothiswillmakeahugedifference!

AdjusttheValves
Thisisthemethodthatwastaughttomebyacoworkerwho'sbeenworkingonHondassincelong
beforeIwasborn.It'ssimple:youwanttheclearanceaslooseasitcanbeaslongasthenextlarger
feelergaugewillnotfit.Soontheintakevalvesthe.003gaugeshouldslidein,butthe.004shouldn"t.
Ontheexhaustthe.006shouldslidein,butthe.007shouldn"t.Pieceofcake.

Putthefeelergaugeinthegapbelowthecamlobe,tightenthescrewwiththespecialtool,pullthe
feelergaugeoutandthentrythenextlargergauge.Ifitwontslidein,holdthescrewandtightenthejam
nut.Thentorquethejamnutto18ft/lbsandmeasuretheclearanceagain.Torquingitwillincreasethe
clearanceslightly,sokeepthisinmindwhenyou'readjustingthemsoyoudon'thavetokeeprepeating
theprocess.

PutitBackTogether

Mostofthereinstallationprocessistheoppositeofremoval.Theexceptionisthatyouneedtoclean
thevalvecovermatingsurfaceofanyoil,crud,andoldliquidgasket.Applynewliquidgaskettoeachof
the90degreesbendsinthevalvecovergasket.Youhaveabout15minutestotorquethevalvecover
downbeforetheliquidgasketdries.Thenyouhavetowaitanhourortwoforittofullycurebeforeyou
canstarttheengine.

ResettheECU
The1992IntegraisOBD1soyouresettheECUbypullingthe7.5Afuseinthefuseboxunderthehood
(sameastheEGCivic).
Handtightenthelugnutsasmuchasyoucanwiththewheelofftheground,dropthecar,thentorque
themto80ft/lbs.
