MODEL EA
RETRIEVAMATIC CEMENTER
Product No. 407-05

MODEL RC-2
HYDRO-GRIP CEMENTER
Product No. 407-20

The industrys most popular and proven

retrievable stimulation and workover
packer, the Retrievamatic is used in all
types of squeeze cementing, casing testing, formation fracturing, and high-pressure acidizing with subsequent testing. It
is a full-opening, set-down packer with
piston-type hold-down buttons, actuated
by pressure from below, and a threesection packing element system. Testing of the run-in string is possible with a
Model S Full-Bore Tubing Tester
(Product No. 672-05).

The Model RC-2 Hydro-Grip Cementer

is a tubing size set-down packer with
hydraulic hold-down pistons. The packer
has moderate pressure capabilities suitable for most acidizing, fracturing, and
squeeze operations. The packer sets
with right-hand rotation. (Tool is not
shown).

FEATURES/BENEFITS
Large bypass area permits circulation
around and through the tool while running in; straight pick-up equalizes pressure across hold-down buttons instantly
Proven face-seal unloader controls the
bypass, eliminating the need for mechanical locks and rotation
Bypass running completely through
the packer isolates buttons from tubing pressure surges, reducing chance
of dulling
Hold-down buttons maintain packoff
during high-pressure operations from
below
Proven packing element system
Rocker slips set with only 3/4 turn,
straight pick-up to retrieve

FEATURES/BENEFITS
Large bypass area permits circulation
both through and around the tool during run-in
Hydraulic hold-down buttons help to
hold packer when pressuring from
below

MODEL S FULL-BORE

* This size may be set in this weight casing in certain circumstances such as mixed strings or unusual hole conditions; however, the other size listed for this weight is recommended and
should be run where possible.
lt may be necessary to turn OD of gauge ring, guide ring, and packing element spacers when running in minimum ID casing.
This dimension is only for guidance in situations where there may be restricted diameters the tool has to pass. In some sizes the slips are bottomed out and will not set without
being damaged.

RETRIEVAMATIC II
Product No. 407-15
(Rocker Slips)
Product No. 407-19
(Dovetail Slips)
The Retrievamatic II is a compression
set, retrievable service packer used for
remedial applications where the Model
EA Retrievamatic Cementer is often
used. These applications may include
squeeze cementing, casing testing, formation fracturing and high pressure
acidizing. The Retrievamatic II retains
the industry proven features and advantages of the Model EA Retrievamatic
while incorporating design improvements
which will enhance the performance of
the packer while lowering the maintenance costs of the tool. It, like the Model
EA Retrievamatic, is a full-opening
packer with piston-type hold-down buttons actuated by pressure from below,
and a three-section packing element
system. Companion tools such as the
Model S Tubing Tester (Product No.
672-05) will be the same as those used
with the Model EA Retrievamatic
Cementer.

This size may be set in this weight casing in certain circumstances such as mixed strings or unusual hole conditions; however, the other size listed for this weight is recommended and should
be run where possible.
lt may be necessary to turn OD of gauge ring, guide ring, and packing element spacers when running in minimum ID casing.
This dimension is only for guidance in situations where there may be restricted diameters the tool has to pass. In some sizes the slips are bottomed out and will not set without being damaged.
The size 44 Retrievamatic II is intended for use where increased running clearance is necessary. Use size 45 tools whenever possible.
The size 44 Retrievamatic II with rocker slips will not set in 5-1/2 14 lb (139.7 mm 6.35 kg) casing, therefore dovetail slips must be used.
Pressure ratings will vary according to casing size and gauge ring used. Consult Engineering for appropriate ratings.

MODEL A BACKPRESSURE VALVE

Product No. 599-04

MODEL E TUBING
CONTROL VALVE
Product No. 672-34

The Model A Back-Pressure Valve provides a means of controlling back-flow

when either running or pulling a run-in
string. Depending on the fluid in the
wellbore, a fire and safety hazard is
eliminated.
Its primary application is in conjunction with a full-bore retrievable cementer
and a Model C or H-1 Retrievable
Bridge Plug or a Model EA
Retrievamatic Cementer and a Model
G Retrievable Bridge Plug, to control
backflow when moving from a treated
zone to straddle a new zone.
The flapper valve can be locked in the
open position for swab or flow testing.

The Model E Tubing Control Valve is a

full-opening valve that can be used above
a Retrievamatic cementer to isolate a
zone from the tubing hydrostatic after
squeeze cementing in a low-fluid-level
well. Valve opening is accomplished
with right-hand rotation, with six and
one-half turns at the tool, moving the
valve from fully closed to fully open position. Opening or closing can be repeated
as often as desired.
The valve can also be used as a
control valve to prevent flowback while
running, moving or retrieving downhole
tools.

FEATURES/BENEFITS
Valve controls backflow when moving
from a treated zone to straddle a new
zone

MODEL F TEST AND

STIMULATION VALVE
Product No. 714-02

PRESSURE-ACTUATED
STIMULATION VALVE
Product No. 714-10

The Model F Test and Stimulation Valve

is a rotationally actuated, quick-opening,
full-bore valve. It is used in conjunction
with a Retrievamatic cementer, for the
purpose of creating sudden, high-velocity flow from the formation through the
perforations into the tubing. Plugged
perforations are cleared, and blocking
agents in the vicinity of the wellbore are
removed.

The Pressure-Actuated Stimulation

Valve is a test and stimulation valve that
is actuated by pressure applied to the
annulus. This feature makes it especially applicable to operations involving
deep or deviated holes where rotation of
the tubing or drillpipe proves difficult. It
can be used for any operation in which
the Model F Test and Stimulation Valve
is used, provided it is possible to pressure the annulus. Tool actuation is effected by pressuring the annulus to 1000
psi (70,31 kg/cm 2). It is the lower valve
in the Model A Dual Surge System
(Product No. 714-09).

Also applicable in:

MODEL A UPPER
SURGE VALVE
Product No. 714-19
The Model A Upper Surge Valve is
designed to contain surges from below.
It is run in with the valve in the closed
position. The valve can be opened by
pressuring the tubing from above which
will lock the valve in the open position. It
is the top valve in the Model A Dual
Surge Valve System (Product No. 71409).

MODEL A DUAL
SURGE SYSTEM
Product No. 714-09
The Model A Dual Surge System consists of the Model A Upper Surge Valve
(Product No. 714-19) spaced above the
Pressure-Activated Stimulation Valve
(Product No. 714-10). Both of the valves
are run in the closed position, creating an
atmospheric chamber between them.
This setup is run on top of an EA
Retrievamatic Cementer that is set above
perforations. The Pressure Activated
Stimulation Valve is opened by pressuring the annulus. The pressure at the
perforations is dropped to zero and the
surge from the formation cleans out the
debris. The upper surge valve safely
contains the surge and allows circulation. It can be opened by pressuring
down the tubing.

lower valve that breaks a glass disk. The

pressure at the perforations is dropped
to zero and the surge from the formation
cleans out the debris. The surge is
safely contained by the upper surge valve.
After surging, the tubing can be pressured to actuate the cutter in the upper
valve that breaks a glass disk allowing
the tubing to be safely circulated.
FEATURES/BENEFITS
Surge safely contained in tubing
High pressure glass disk
No rotation required

MODEL B
RETRIEVAMATIC/
HURRICANE PLUG
Product No. 407-09
Designed for emergencies that force temporary well shutdowns, it seals off the
casing string while the drillpipe hangs off
bottom. Saving installation time, the
entire drillstring need not be pulled to
install the plug. The Hurricane Plug
offers a choice of three drillpipe plugging
systems, depending on the well configurations and weather conditions. A unique
sub equalizes any pressure buildup before the plug is retrieved.
The Hurricane Plug is basically a
Retrievamatic cementer and can double
as a squeeze tool or as a plug to isolate
the casing when changing wellheads.
The tool sets with right-hand rotation,
using pipe weight for initial packoff.

FEATURES/BENEFITS
Large bypass area permits circulation
around and through the tool while running in straight pick-up equalizes
pressure across hold-down buttons

Product Nos. 407-14 & 407-18
The Model J Retrievamatic has a Jshaped control slot in the bottom that
automatically re-positions the tool to the
run-in position when it is picked up; no
rotation of the tool is required to go back
downhole.
The Model J Plug is designed to be
run in conjunction with hydraulic and
mechanical-set liner hangers. Running
the Model J in the string above the liner
hanger allows the liner to be set and the
liner top to be tested and/or squeezed
immediately following primary cementing operations. The Model J is also
suitable for use in heavy duty cementer
or in hurricane plug applications.
The Model L Retrievamatic has an
L-shaped control slot in the bottom that
requires no rotation to reset when moving up hole. However, it does require
rotation to reposition it back to the run-in
position. It is for operations where it is
desirable to be able to pick up and remain in the ready to set position.
The J & L are available for casing

Model P-2 Set-Down Unloading Sub

Product No. 671-03

The Rotational Equalizing Sub is a valve

designed for use in plugging and equalizing drillpipe or tubing above and below
the Retrievamatic/Hurricane Plug.

MODEL FWG
BLANKING PLUG
Product No. 806-88
Removal of the Model FWG Blanking
Plug (an integral part of the rotational
equalizing sub) allows wireline operations to be performed through the Hurricane Plug.

MODEL P-2 SET-DOWN

UNLOADING SUB
Product No. 671-03
The Model P-2 Set-Down Unloading
Sub is used to equalize tubing-annulus
pressure when using a set-down packer.
A face-type seal prevents communication between the tubing and annulus
when the sub is in the closed position;
the sub is held open or closed by collet
fingers. Since the sub is essentially
pressure balanced, normal set-down
weight required for operation of the tool
run below the sub is sufficient to maintain
closed position when run with the proper
size tubing.

MODEL C
RETRIEVABLE BRIDGE PLUG
Product No. 677-01
A dependable plug that holds pressure
from above or below, the Model C is
used for acidizing, formation fracturing,
and temporary pressure containment.
This plug uses differential pressure
from above or below to achieve and
maintain packoff. Once the plug has
been run to the desired depth and released, it sets automatically and seals
against pressure differential from either
direction.
Simple to pick up and relocate, it is
ideal for selective isolation and fracturing, acidizing, or testing of several zones
in one round trip when used with a retrievable cementer. It is run and retrieved
with the Model H Washover Type
Retrieving Head (Product No. 677-71).

Opposed rocker slips prevent movement either up or down, depending on
the direction of the differential pressure

MODEL H-1 RETRIEVABLE

BRIDGE PLUG
Product No. 677-06
The Model H-1 Retrievable Bridge Plug
is comparable to the Model C Retrievable Bridge Plug in performance, application and operation. In addition, it incorporates a hydraulically balanced lower valve
and is applicable to well conditions where
flow of either gas or fluid from below the
plug is anticipated. When the plug is
relocated or pulled from the well, pressure from below is relieved by holding the
valve open. (Tool is not shown.)

The Sealer Ball Catcher is a slotted

basket threaded to the upper valve cage
of either Model C or H-1 Bridge Plug.
Its volume is adequate to catch the average number of sealer balls used on
acidizing jobs only. The catcher eliminates the balls from accumulating on top
of the retrievable bridge plug, which
could cause difficulties in retrieving. (Tool

MODEL G LOK-SET
RETRIEVABLE BRIDGE
PLUG
Product No. 677-34

MODEL GT LOK-SET
RETRIEVABLE BRIDGE
PLUG
Product No. 677-37

This plug is designed for higher-pressure, higher-temperature applications

than the Model C . Applications
include multiple testing and treating
operations, selective single-zone operations, fracturing, acidizing, or cementing. It withstands high differential pressure from above or below, at
high temperatures.

The Model GT Lok-Set Retrievable

Bridge Plug is a version of the Model
G Lok-Set Retrievable Bridge Plug
which can be positively tested from
above and below. Also, well control
can be maintained through the tubing
while equalizing pressure from below
the plug.
Current regulations in certain drilling markets require three containment
barriers for temporary abandonment of
a well. The GT Lok-Set Retrievable
Bridge Plug provides one of those barriers and is the only retrievable bridge
plug that can be positively tested from
both above and below. (Tool is not
shown.)

FEATURES/BENEFITS
Balanced unloader remains open
while plug is engaged in the retrieving head this eliminates having
to overcome pressure differential
while running in, packing off, or
retrieving
Triple packing element system retracts completely, allowing fast,
safe running and retrieving seals
tightly against high differential pressure
Opposed slips prevent movement
either up or down
Circulation passage through the
plug allows fluid to bypass during
running or retrieving, reducing swabbing

The Model L Lok-Set Retrieving

Head is used for running and retrieving Model G Lok-Set Retrievable
Bridge Plugs. While the retrieving
head is engaged with the bridge plug,
the balanced unloading valve, which
controls fluid flow through the bridge
plug, is open. When the plug sets and
the retrieving head is released, the
unloading valve is automatically
closed.
The retrieving head can be assembled with a rotating feature, making it easier to wash sand and debris
from the top of the bridge plug when
retrieving.

WIRELINE SET
RETRIEVABLE BRIDGE PLUG
Product No. 677-32
The Wireline Set Retrievable Bridge Plug
is a medium-performance retrievable
bridge plug that combines the advantages of tubing or sand-line retrievability
with the advantages of fast, accurate
electric wireline setting.
The Wireline Set Retrievable Bridge
Plug can be used for any operation that
the Model C Retrievable Bridge Plug
(Product No. 677-01) is used, such as
zone isolation, formation fracturing or
acidizing, and surface equipment repair,
where the accuracy of electric wireline
setting is desirable. This provides a
distinct advantage in situations in which
the plug must be run and retrieved under
pressure, as it can be lubricated in and
out of the well, eliminating the necessity
of snubbing tubing or killing the well.
This plug is retrieved with the Model
M Washover Retrieving Head
(Product No. 677-76).

Product No. 665-12
The Model F Latching-Type Packer Plug
can be run on the bottom of a retrievable
squeeze tool such as a retrievable cementer,
or it can be run by itself. lt converts a permanent packer into a temporary bridge plug, and
contains a pressure-equalizing feature to facilitate release; however, right-hand rotation
is required.
The Model L Lok-Set Retrieving Head
(Product No. 677-75) is the same as used on
the Model G Lok-Set Retrievable Bridge
Plug (Product No. 677-34) and is used to run

This dimension is only for guidance in situations where there may be restricted diameters the tool has to pass through. In some sizes, the slips bottom out
and will not set without being damaged.
This size packer may be set in this weight casing in certain circumstances such as mixed strings or unusual hole conditions; however, the other size packer
listed for this weight is recommended and should be run where possible.

INJECTION CONTROL
VALVE (ICV)
Product No. 714-25

MODEL A-1 MECHANICAL

COLLAR LOCATOR
Product No. 599-51

The Injection Control Valve is used to

support the hydrostatic head in the tubing during treating operations in wells
with low reservoir pressures. It prevents
the loss of expensive treating fluids when
moving between intervals or during shutin periods. The valve is opened by
applying pressure down the tubing. The
ICV can be run in place or dropped from
surface if tubing contains a sufficient
fluid level. The valve can be equalized
and retrieved on sandline or slickline.

The Model A-1 Mechanical Collar Locator provides a simple means of accurately locating any tool run in threaded
and coupled casing. The mechanical
collar locator features simple construction, large fluid bypass area, and compatibility with primary tool operation.
Collars can be located as many times as
desired by picking up through the collar,
then slacking back through it. This movement will give a clear surface indication
on the weight indicator as the dogs locate and move through the J-J of the
coupling.

FEATURES/BENEFITS
Saves expensive treating fluids
Can be set to support up to 4000 psi
(27,58 Kpa) hydrostatic
Uses standard seating nipple
Can be equalized and retrieved on
sandline or slickline

FEATURES/BENEFITS
Large fluid bypass allows rapid running and retrieving of the locator
ICV Injection

The Model C Injection Control Valve
performs the same function as the Injection Control Valve. The Model C ICV
was designed for deep well, high- volume displacement service. The sealing
surfaces on the control valve are made
of a ceramic material. The ceramic
material resists seal erosion normallly
associated with high volume displacement service. (Tool is not shown.)
FEATURES/BENEFITS
Ceramic valve seal has longer
working life
High performance rating 6000 psi
(41,47 Kpa) and pumping rates up to
4 BPM

MODEL K-1 CEMENT
RETAINER
Product No. 400-21
(Mechanical Set)
Product No. 400-23
(Wireline Set)
The company that invented the drillable cement retainer continues to market the best
tool available for single-interval squeeze,
batch, or block squeeze cementing.
As a result of extensive engineering tests,
the Model K-1 Cement Retainer is constructed of components subject to stringent
material specifications and quality control
procedures. It provides the optimum strength
and drillability combination. The Model K-1
Cement Retainers two-way valve is controlled from the surface; no springs to cock or
stick; just pick up to close; set down to open.
Maximum clearance for fast running plus
improved drillability and pressure ratings
make it the right choice.

FEATURES/BENEFITS
Tubing or electric line set can be set by
mechanical or hydraulic methods on tubing or drillpipe, or run and set on electric
line
Faster, safer run-in run-in speed is up to
the operator Bakers locked construction design and larger clearance make this
possible
Tests tubing tubing can be tested before squeezing by picking up to close the
valve and applying pressure
Holds final squeeze pressure automatic
closing of the valve when picking up, or
removal of stinger, ensures holding the
squeeze under final pressure as cement is
circulated out
Isolates squeeze from hydrostatic pressure keeping hydrostatic pressure off
the zone just squeezed is important, especially for cementing low-fluid-level wells in
batch-squeeze operations Bakers
unique valve guarantees an effective seal
Fast drillout new material specifications
developed especially for the Model K-1
Cement Retainers result in faster drillout

MODEL E-4 WIRELINE
PRESSURE SETTING ASSEMBLY
(Sizes 05,10 & 20)
Product No. 437-02
The Model E-4 provides a sure, proven means
for setting any electric line set product, including
bridge plugs, cement retainers, retainer production packers, and other wireline set tools.
The assembly is a gas-generating tool used
for the gradual development of hydraulic force
required to set bridge plugs, retainer production
packers, and cement retainers. The gas pressure required is obtained by the electrical ignition
of a Model BP-3S Igniter that activates the
secondary igniter and the power charge. The
Model E-4 incorporates a manual bleeder valve
to ensure safe and simple pressure bleed-off
prior to disassembly after being run.
The firing head connects the wireline pressure setting assembly to the collar locator on the
electric line, providing electrical ignition of the
power charge through the primary and secondary igniters. The top end is blank so threads can
be machined to fit the electric wireline companys
collar locator. Firing head sold separately.

STANDARD POWER CHARGE

Product No. 437-64
The Standard Power Charge provides a dependable and economic means of power for the Model
E-4 Pressure Setting Assembly. Available for
the #05,10 and 20 E-4. (Not shown.)

SLOW SET POWER CHARGE

Product No. 437-66
The Slow Set Power Charge is designed for
setting packers, plugs, and retainers at a slower
speed using the E-4 Pressure Setting Assembly. The slower speed increases the reliability of
the packing element seal and the slips. The Slow
Set Power Charge is recommended for all tools
in severe conditions or any critical application
where an increase in reliability is economically
justified. Specific applications include complex
tools that have a large number of moving parts
such as wireline set retrievable bridge plugs and
heavy equipment such as packers, retainers and
bridge plugs 9-5/8" (244,48 mm) and larger.
Available for the #10 and 20 E-4 and for the
#05 E-5 Setting Tools. (Not shown.)
FEATURES/BENEFITS
Slow setting adds reliability to packing element seal

MODEL G FIRING HEAD
Product No. 437-24
The Model L Hydrostatic High Temperature Setting Tool is designed to set
high temperature packers on wireline. It
can also be used whenever a slow controlled set is required for cement retainers or bridge plugs when sufficient hydrostatic head is available. An ignitor
and power charge initiate the setting
process then the setting tool uses hydrostatic pressure to generate up 90,000
lbs (40823,31 kg) of setting force. The
setting time is variable from almost instantaneous to over an hour by changing
the number of stages and metering cartridges. The Model G Firing Head is
used in conjunction with the Model L
Setting Tool.
Due to the numerous variables that
effect the function of the Model L
Setting Tool, it must be set up specifically for each run. The specialized nature of this tool also requires that it be
prepared for each run at the Baker Oil
Tools Houston plant. Contact your area
Baker representative to set up the job.

MODEL H WIRELINE
FEELER AND JUNK CATCHER
Product No. 439-01
The Model H Wireline Feeler and Junk
Catcher is run in the well to determine if
the wellbore is large enough to permit
subsequent passage of the bridge plug,
packer, or other tool that is to be run. In
addition, the feeler and junk catcher will
serve to clean the well of junk that might
interfere with the proper setting or operation of the tool.

MODEL R WIRELINE
FEELER AND JUNK CATCHER
Product No. 439-07
The Model R Wireline Feeler and Junk
Catcher is used to gauge and to clean
junk and debris from a tubing wellbore
prior to running drillable products on an
electric line. The guide on the basket is
slightly larger than the OD of the drillable
product to be run, ensuring that the drillable product will reach setting depth. A
flapper valve in the bottom end of the
basket will trap and retrieve junk and
debris. (Tool is not shown.)

MODEL C WIRELINE JAR

Product No. 439-44
The Model C Wireline Jar is a mechanical-type jar and should always be run in
conjunction with the Model R Wireline

MODEL C-3 ROTO-VERT
CASING SCRAPER
Product No. 620-03

FEATURES/BENEFITS
The body of the Roto-Vert Scraper is machined from solid bar stock to ensure maximum strength
The blade blocks are of cast steel with
hardfaced scraping edges, providing maximum strength and working life
Rotating or reciprocal movement of the RotoVert Scraper cleans equally well on drillpipe
or tubing
The angle and direction of shear on the
scraping edges of the blades ensures that no
imperfections are bypassed in the casing ID

The Model C-3 Roto-Vert Casing Scraper is

ideal to remove cement sheath, scale, perforating burrs, and other foreign substances
from the inside walls of casing.
The importance of keeping the casing ID
clean and smooth cannot be over stressed, as
nearly all subsequent operations in the well are
affected in one way or another by the condition
of the casing bore. Any jagged imperfection in
the casing, variation in the ID, or layer of mud
and cement can cause tool failure in a variety
of operations.

*Note: Due to the overlap in products with our Fishing Services Department, Baker Oil Tools has
discontinued the production of the Model C-3 Roto-Vert Casing Scraper. You can continue to rent
C-3 Roto-Vert Scrapers from Baker Oil Tools and order replacement parts for them (except
bodies).

MODEL B JUNK BASKET
Product No. 428-02
The Model B Junk Basket aids in the removal of cuttings from the hole when drilling or milling nondrillable materials. The basket is positioned just above the bit or milling tool in the drilling string. It
consists of a drill collar, a cylinder, and a drill collar sub. This forms a basket for trapping the metal
cuttings.
The effectiveness of the unit lies in the reduction of circulation fluid velocity upon reaching the
upper portion of the cylinder, allowing metal cuttings to drop into the basket.

MODEL A-2
SAND-LINE DRILL
Product No. 747-41

PUMP TYPE
TUBING BAILER
Product No. 747-50

The Model A-2 Sand-Line Drill provides a simple means of drilling out packers, cement, and other drillable materials, often in less than one hour. It can
also be used for drilling in open-hole
completions and removing sand, gravel,
junk, or other debris from the wellbore.
Converting to a sand pump is as simple
as changing the shoes.

The Pump Type Tubing Bailer allows

sand and debris to be removed from the
wellbore of low fluid-level wells. The bailer
is designed to function in wells with as
little as a few hundred feet of fluid. It
replaces hydrostatic bailers, which require several thousand feet for operation. Drilling can also be performed with
the bailer to remove cement crust or to
drill out cast iron plugs and retainers in
low fluid-level wells. (Tool is not shown.)

FEATURES/BENEFITS
Connection for cable-tool drilling line,
service machine, or the sand line of a
rotary rig eliminates expensive surface equipment
Cuttings are picked up for maximum
drilling efficiency
Full chisel shoe is for soft items such
as cement and sand bridges the
60% chisel shoe is for harder objects
such as cast iron plugs and packers

MILLING TOOLS
Through the use of one of Baker Oil
Tools milling tools or plug plucker, permanent bridge plugs, cement retainers,
and packers can be quickly and safely
milled over and/or retrieved from the
well. Although designed primarily for
removing Baker products, they are available in many special sizes to mill over
other makes of similar equipment.
Because only a very small portion of
the plug, retainer, or packer ever needs
to be milled out, and the milling shoes
have been specifically designed to remove only the necessary sections, millout time is reduced to the minimum.
Cementing and treating work previously limited by the capabilities of retrievable plugs or packers can be done
with high-performance drillable tools,
since they can be safely removed following treatment.

MODEL CJ
PACKER MILLING TOOL
Product No. 747-06
The Model CJ Packer Milling Tool is
used to mill over permanent packers and
to retrieve the milled-out packer from
well. (Tool is not shown.)
FEATURES/BENEFITS
Milling shoes are specifically designed
to remove only the outside sections of
the packer, reducing milling time to a
minimum
Spring-loaded catch sleeve retrieves
balance of packer body

MODEL CJ-1
PACKER MILLING TOOL
Product No. 747-51
The Model CJ-1 is similar to the Model
CJ except it uses dogs instead of a
catch sleeve, and the CJ-1 has a twostep safety mechanism.

MODEL CB
PACKER MILLING TOOL
Product No. 747-02
The Model CB Packer Milling Tool is
used to mill over permanent packers and
to push to bottom of hole. (Tool is not
shown.)

MODEL CC MILLING TOOL

Product No. 747-03
The Model CC Milling Tool is used to
mill out permanent bridge plugs or cement retainers and to push to bottom of
hole, or to mill over retrievable-type packers when conditions exist that render
normal retrieving methods impossible.
(Tool is not shown.)

MODEL CK MILLING TOOL

Product No. 747-08
The Model CK Milling Tool is used to
mill over and retrieve retainer production
packers with seal bore extensions, pup
joints, landing nipples, and the like, where
the Model CJ Packer Milling Tool is not
applicable. The CK mill includes a
spear that is used to latch into and retrieve the body of the packer after the
outside portion of the packer has been
milled up.
FEATURES/BENEFITS
Spear is designed to retrieve packer
assemblies that include seal bore
extentions, pup joints, and landing
nipples

REMEDIAL & STIMULATION

MODEL CP-1
PLUG PLUCKER
Product No. 747-12
FEATURES/BENEFITS
Shoes on the milling tools or plug
pluckers are dressed with crushed
tungsten carbide chips to ensure longer
cutting life
Stinger withstands between 40,000
lbs (18143,70 kg) and 50,000 Ibs
(22679,62 kg) of pull, depending on
size and model

For milling over permanent bridge plugs

and/or cement retainers and retrieving
the milled-out portion from the wellbore.
With this tool, bridge plugs and retainers
never have to be pushed downhole, allowing high performance bridge plugs or
cement retainers to be safely set above
a liner. Years of research and development have produced a milling action that
will easily mill up even the largest retainer or plug, in most cases in one round
trip.

WHY ANCHOR TUBING?
In a pumping well with an unanchored
tubing string, being pumped at the rate of
15 strokes per minute, wasteful and destructive tubing movement occurs 21,600
times a day on each upstroke. The
tubing for several joints above the pump
is forcibly wrapped around the taut rod
string (buckling), causing excessive rod
and tubing wear, which increases friction
drag and surface power requirements.
Moving 21,600 times a day on each
upstroke, the tubing moves upward
(breathing) as the fluid load is transferred from the tubing to the rods. This
reduces effective stroke of the pump,
causing couplings to rub against the
casing with resulting coupling wear. This
breathing and buckling is repeated with
each pump cycle nearly one million
times a month each time removing a
little more metal from rods, tubing ID,
and couplings (resulting in leaking or
parted tubing and/or parted rods), each
time lifting less oil (resulting in substantial production losses).

MODELS B-2 AND B-3

TUBING ANCHOR CATCHERS
Product Nos. 698-03 & 698-04
No single expenditure will do so much for
a pumping well so fast and with such
a quick pay-out as a tubing anchorcatcher: more oil per stroke fewer
strokes per barrel. Extends life of rods
and tubing at the same time and permits
longer runs between pulling jobs, which
means less downtime, more production
time, more oil.
FEATURES/BENEFITS
Parted tubing is caught before it falls;
all vertical movement of the tubing at
the anchor during the pump cycle is
prevented
Tubing tension will not increase over
that applied when set, permitting tubing to be kept at safe stress levels
protects tubing from impact of parted
rods and cyclic stresses caused by
pump pounding and breathing

Cone does not move relative to slip

once the anchor catcher is set, stopping impact loading between anchoring and catching positions
Each slip contains two sets of directional wickers, one designed to prevent upward movement, the other to
prevent downward movement
Variable shear pin design permits
emergency release at preselected
loads with an upward pull when normal release is impossible
Stainless steel drag springs are specially designed with a low-stress value
to minimize breaking under corrosive
conditions
Flange on each side of slips fits under
the housing to prevent the slips from
working loose

MODEL DB TUBING
ANCHOR CATCHER
Product No. 698-05
The Model DB Tubing Anchor Catcher
has the same features as the Models B2 and B-3 Tubing Anchor Catcher
except that the drag springs are replaced
with drag blocks.

ing the tubing fluid reduces the required

tubing strength by the amount of the fluid
load in the tubing. Since the sleeve
completely uncovers the drain ports in
the body, effective fluid cutting damage
to the sub cannot occur.

Double-Box Bushing
Product No. 598-10

HYDRAULIC SET
ANCHOR CATCHER
Product No. 698-31
An anchor catcher is also available for 51/2" (139,70 mm), 7" (177,8 mm), and 95/8" (244,48 mm) applications which requires no rotation to set or release the
TAC. (Tool is not shown.)

DOUBLE-BOX BUSHING
TUBING HANGER BUSHING
Product No. 598-10
The Double-Box Bushing for donut-type
tubing hangers provides an easier, safer
method of applying and removing tension from tubing strings landed in this
type of hanger. It can be used with any
anchor or packer that requires the tubing
string to be placed in tension (tension
tubing anchor, anchor-catcher, Model
A Tension Packer, etc.).

PRESSURE RELIEF SUB

FOR PUMPING WELLS
Product No. 717-90
The Pressure Relief Sub provides a
means of draining the tubing fluid when
a pump standing valve, the pump itself,
or rods cannot be retrieved prior to pulling the tubing. Draining is accomplished
by merely pressuring the tubing to shift
the sleeve and open the drain ports.
Mechanical manipulations of the tubing
string are not required to open the pressure relief sub.
When the Pressure Relief Sub is
used in conjunction with a tubing anchor
catcher and it becomes necessary to
shear the shear pins to release it, drain-

PRESTRAIN TABLES
HOW TO CALCULATE THE
PROPER TENSION
The tables shown on these pages may be used to calculate the
proper prestrain to be applied from the surface to eliminate
breathing and buckling in a rod-pumped tubing string. These
tables are based on Equation (5) from Lubinski and Blenkarns
paper, Buckling of Tubing in Pumping Wells. Its Effects and
Means for Controlling it.
Use of the tables simplifies the determination of the tension
required by resolving Lubinski and Blenkarns equation to the
following formula:
FT = Fl + F2 - F3
In applying this tension (FT), the small stretch charts found
on each page may be used to determine how much stretch is
required in order to achieve the desired tension.

SAMPLE CALCULATION
The following hypothetical calculation illustrates the use of the
formula and tables to compute the tension required to properly
install the anchor-catcher.
Tubing OD .......................................... 2-3/8 In. (60,33 mm)
Pump and tubing anchor depth ................ 5000 ft (1524 m)
Fluid level when anchor set .................. 4000 ft (1219,2 m)
Operating fluid level ................................. 5000 ft (1524 m)
Fluid temperature at surface ............................ 90F (32C)
Mean yearly temperature for area
in which well is located ................................. 60F (16C)
F1 (from Table 1) = 7750 lbs (3515,4 kg)
F2 (from Table 2) = 4050 lbs (1836,7 kg)
F3 (from Table 3) = 1670 lbs (757,49 kg)
FT = Fl + F2 - F3
= 7750 lbs (3515,4 kg) + 4050 lbs (1836,7 kg) - 1670 lbs
(757,49 kg)
= 10,130 lbs (4594,89 kg) tension required to eliminate
breathing and buckling
Referring the conversion chart for 2-3/8" (60,33 mm) tubing,
it is determined that to achieve 10,130 lbs (4594,89 kg) tension
on 5000 ft (1524 m) of 2-3/8" (60,33 mm) OD tubing, a stretch
of approximately 16" (406,4 mm) is required.

IMPORTANT NOTE
The prestrain determined from these charts presumes that the
well data is accurately known.

50

If the well data is not accurately known and the tubing will
allow a greater prestrain than that calculated, it is recommended that a somewhat greater prestrain be taken as a safety
factor.

BASIS FOR THE DETERMINATION OF THE

PROPER TENSION TO OVERCOME BUCKLING
Movement of a free tubing string in a pumping well.
On the upstroke, when the traveling valve seats, a portion of
the fluid load in the tubing is transferred to the rods. The tubing,
suddenly relieved of this load, contracts, moving upward (breathing). Simultaneously the tubing, for several joints above the
pump, wraps around the taut rod string in a helical fashion
(buckling). This buckling phenomenon is caused by pressure
differential in favor of the tubing. Buckling is most pronounced
immediately above the pump and diminishes up the string until
a point (neutral point) is reached where tubing tension becomes
great enough to eliminate it entirely. Thus, tubing tension can
prevent buckling. . . but how much tension?
On the downstroke, with the closing of the standing valve,
the entire fluid load is on the tubing, causing it to stretch back
down to its fully elongated position. Even though the tubing
pressure (the cause of buckling) has not changed, there is no
buckling . . . thus the amount of tension required to eliminate
buckling is the tension that exists in the fully elongated free
tubing string of a rod pumped well on the downstroke.
The tables on these pages, based on the Lubinski-Blenkarn
Equation, permit the calculation of the prestrain equivalent to
the distance free tubing will elongate from the time the tubing is
landed, until the well fluid level has been pumped down to
operating level.
Three factors cause the tubing to elongate: (1) increase in
temperature due to warm oil filling the tubing string, (2) loss of
buoyancy due to pumping down the annulus, and (3) weight
of entire fluid column in the tubing string when the standing
valve is closed.
One factor, ballooning (tendency of tubing walls to bulge
outward under tubing pressure), shortens the tubing.
The prestrain calculated from the tables, which includes the
net result of all of these factors, permits the tubing to be
prestretched against an anchor-catcher to a length that is equal
(under same well conditions) to the length of a free tubing string
in a pumping well on the downstroke. In operation, the tension
in the anchored string will be only that required to eliminate
buckling.

REMEDIAL & STIMULATION

MODEL D TUBING SWIVEL
Product No. 598-01
The Model D Tubing Swivel is designed for operating various Baker Oil
Tool products during light-duty drilling
and circulating operations requiring
rotation. Weighing approximately 125
lbs (56,69 kg), the tubing swivel is light
in weight, yet sturdy. Operating load
capacity 2-3/8" (60,33 mm) OD EU pin
down is 35 tons (3175,47 kg); 2-7/8"
(73,03 mm) OD EU pin down is 50 tons
(45359,24 kg). Rated working pressure is 7500 psi (527,33 kg/cm 2); each
tubing swivel is tested to 11,000 psi
(77341 kg/cm 2) after assembly. The
tubing swivel has bronze bushings as
integral parts of the body and bottom
sub, with flush-type fittings provided
for lubrication of bronze bushings and
thrust bearings. The weight of the
string is swiveled on these roller-type
thrust bearings.

A selection of surface testing manifolds is

available to provide choke control for conducting production or flow tests in conjunction with a Retrievamatic cementer, or compatible packer. All testing manifolds are dualchoke type, thus eliminating shutting the well
in to change chokes.
These manifolds are 10,000 psi (703,1
Kg/cm2) WP manifolds and are tested to
15,000 psi(1054,65 kg/cm2) after assembly.
The B-1 Center Type is used primarily with
tubing, while the Model D and E are applicable with drillpipe.

Six-Valve Cementing Manifold

(10,000 psi / 703,1 kg/cm 2 WP)
Product No. 598-13

A selection of cementing manifolds is available

to provide complete control of fluid flow, and of
tubing, drillpipe, and casing pressures during
cement squeezing or comparable operations.
A Four-Valve Cementing Manifold is a 5000
psi (351,55 kg/cm 2 )WP compact manifold and is
applicable in shallow-hole, low-pressure areas.
For the deeper, high-pressure areas, both the
Five- and Six-Valve Manifolds are 10,000 psi
(703,1 kg/cm 2 )WP, with the Six-Valve Cementing Manifold primarily being used for the extreme
pressure conditions.
All 5000 psi (351,55 kg/cm 2) WP manifolds
are tested to 7500 psi (527,33 kg/cm 2) after
assembly, and all 10,000 psi (703,1 kg/cm 2 )
WP manifolds are tested to 15,000 psi
(1054,65 kg/cm 2) after assembly.

REMEDIAL & STIMULATION

Long-term heat and pressure environment tests prove Bakerseal compound holds pressure without leaking.
Joints made up with API modified and
API silicone compounds were pressured,
along with joints with Bakerseal compound, to 10,000 psi (703,1 kg/cm 2) using kerosene and placed in a 350F
(176,67C) environment. One compound
leaked immediately; another lasted 48
hours; only Bakerseal held without leakage for the full month test.

BAKERSEAL
THREAD SEALING
COMPOUND
Product No. 899-20
Bakerseal Thread Sealing Compound
not only seals threaded connections on
new pipe, but also has superior sealing
characteristics when used on worn or
damaged threads.
Bakerseal compound seals saturated
steam at 575F (301,67C), which is
nearly twice the API temperature required for a thread sealing compound.

Bakerseal Thread Sealing Compound

Product No. 899-20

Crests of threads were deliberately

machined flat to increase the helical
leakpath. Of all popular compounds and
tapes used in the test, only Bakerseal
compound consistently provided a leakproof joint at pressures of 10,000 psi
(703,1 kg/cm 2).

TESTS PROVE BAKERSEAL

SUPERIORITY
Under simulated pumping conditions,
joints with Bakerseal compound showed
no leaks or back-off after 250,000 cycles,
despite cyclic loading averaging 70,000
lb (3175,47 kg) at 20 spm with tubing
pressure at 10,000 psi (703,1 kg/cm 2).

APPLICATION
Bakerseal has an ideal viscosity for applying to threads; it is as easy to apply as
any ordinary thread dope or compound.
One gallon of Bakerseal will seal and
protect more than 400 joints of 2-7/8"
(73,03 mm) EU 8Rd tubing. Since it will
not evaporate, oxidize, or harden
either in an open container or on threads
Bakerseal is ideal for all API taperedthread joints.

Still readily brushable at 0F (-17,78C),

Bakerseal was applied to pre-cooled
joints as cold as -110F (-78,89C).
These joints continued to hold 10,000
psi (703,1 kg/cm 2), using aromatic solvent as a pressuring agent, without leakage either while cold or after heating to
simulate downhole conditions.
