Intrinsic and extrinsic motivation, motivational theorists of the early 20th

century searched for general principles of behavior. Theories of the period

focused primarily on the motivations triggered by physiological drives or
needs such as food, sleep, procreation, and security.
Intrinsic motivation involves engaging in behavior because it is personally
rewarding; essentially, performing an activity for its own sake rather than the
desire for some external reward.
Extrinsic motivation occurs when we are motivated to perform a behavior or
engage in an activity to earn a reward or avoid punishment.

-So extrinsic is when someone else motivated us, and the intrinsic is the
opposite is personal.
Skinner believed that we do have such a thing as a mind, but that it is simply
more productive to study observable behavior rather than internal mental
events.
The work of Skinner was rooted in a view that classical conditioning was far
too simplistic to be a complete explanation of complex human behavior. He
believed that the best way to understand behavior is to look at the causes of
an action and its consequences. He called this approach operant
conditioning.
-What I understood was that everything is in the mind, and the best way to
understand the behavior is the actions.

Secondary reinforcement refers to a situation in which a stimulus reinforces a
behavior after it has been associated with a primary reinforce.

-Now we started learning, as this says secondary goes next than the primary
that is in a natural way.

Primary reinforces are biological in nature, are naturally reinforcing, i.e. there
is no learning necessary for them to be reinforcing. The conditioned reinforce
is learned.
-So this means that is natural way.
