Albany Irish Rowing Club
Corning Preserve Boathouse
Albany, New York
To Currach Rowers and Guests:
Albany County is honored to play host to the Albany Irish Rowing Clubs 29 th annual regatta.
The rich history of the Hudson River makes it an ideal place for this Celtic nautical tradition. This year
marks the 12th anniversary of launching the event at the Corning Preserve Dock. I look forward to
many more years of partnership with this fantastic competition.
Founded in 1987, the AIRC has grown to include over 50 membersranging in age from 16 to
70. Unlike conventional crew races, this regatta features currachs, a traditional Irish boat, used as a
fishing vessel and a form of general transportation. With this competition, the club fosters
sportsmanship, camaraderie and a fun way to stay fit. AIRC has competed in numerous regattas, and
continues to represent Albany County with pride, tradition, and dedication.
I wish all of the members of the Albany Irish Rowing Club the best of luck in this years
regatta, and thank them all for taking part in one of the many events that makes Albany County a
diverse place to visit, and a wonderful place to live.
Sincerely,
Daniel P. McCoy
