Purposes of communication
Jedi Council: To inform on any attacks and corruption that happens in the
galaxy, and serves as the galactic police force.
Galactic Republic: To enforce trade agreements, spread peace, and improve
planetary relations.
Galactic Senate: To negotiate trade agreements as well as border disputes. It
also governs the Galactic Republic.

How does communication take place?

Holograms and meetings

How does technology impact the

communication practices
Its the only way they communicate. Holograms are used to break language
barriers, give visuals, and is the fastest form of communication.
Technology also helps them travel, defend themselves, and survive. They need
technology to accomplish their goals, and everything they use is based on it.

There is no emotion,

Enforce and follow the

U.S. senate follows.

What specialized language is used within the

communities? Why is this
specialized language or vocabulary necessary?

English is their official language, but because of the

technology and different species that exist, they
make use of personal and specific jargon.
Examples:
Flyboy: This was a slang term for a hot-shot pilot, such as Han Solo.
Harpy: A derogatory term for a female individual. Ahsoka Tano once called Asajj Ventress
a hairless harpy
Hop: A mission, in TIE fighter pilot slang.

How did your character become a

member of this community?
Yoda was born as a
Jedi, and chosen to
be a part of the
galactic republic and
the galactic senate.

How do the selected communities differ

from one another?
They each serve a different purpose and function in
different ways. The Jedi Council operates like a monastery,
the Galactic Senate woks as the United States Senate, and
the Galactic Republic serves as a government.

Which of the selected communities are

discourse communities as Swales has
described them?
All of them satisfy at least five out of the six
criteria. They all have established goals and
communicate with each other to achieve
them, they meet with each other in order to
obtain feedback, they communicate in more
than one way, they make use of their own
jargon, and they all have levels that can be
escalated.
