PAGES:
Please use the PAGES for any daily notes you need to write to me. I will sign the PAGES ONLY if I need to communicate a
concern regarding your childs behavior for the day or if I need to praise them for behaviors that are above and beyond
expectations. Therefore, it is imperative that you do check it daily and sign whenever notes are present. If your child has
had a good (green) day, please know that NO NEWS IS GOOD NEWS! J Your child should keep their PAGES in their
backpack every day. Please take very good care of the PAGES. Do not allow your child to draw on it or have it near food
and drinks. It is very important!

R.O.A.R. Folder:
The R.O.A.R. (Responsible, Organized, Accountable, & Ready!) folder is our classroom communication and accountability
tool. These will go home nightly and must be returned to school the next day. Inside the R.O.A.R. folder, you will find our
nightly reading log, monthly newsletter, weekly homework, skill helpers, Friday work, and any fliers/communication, etc.
that need to be sent home. Please keep the contents in the folder and in order. I will check the reading log each day. Please
take very good care of the R.O.A.R. Folder. Do not allow your child to draw on it or have it near food and drinks. It is very
important!

Homework:
Weekly homework responsibilities include reading at least 20 minutes per night, completing a nightly reading log and a
nightly spelling task (no spelling on Wednesdays), and one page each of math and language arts per week. Aside from
checking the reading log daily, I will collect all homework on Friday morning.

Spelling/Word Study:
Students will have reading and spelling tests every Friday.
The spelling program I use focuses on one specific letter pattern each week in hopes that students will really retain that
knowledge and be able to apply it to unknown words in the future, strengthening that reading and writing connection.
Students will be tested on ten list words each week and three unknown words that follow the exact same pattern.
Additionally, there will be two No Excuse words on each test. These words are a combination of everyday words that
students frequently use in their writing, first and second grade sight words, commonly misspelled words, and words that
they should have mastered before now. There will also be a bonus sentence to allow an opportunity for extra credit!
For homework, students will have a Spelling Notebook that they work in every week. There are individual homework
choices for each list based on which type of activities would be the best fit and most meaningful for the word lists. It will
all make sense when it comes home! J In addition to a pencil and crayons/colored pencils, students will need to have
scissors and a glue stick at home to complete their nightly spelling task. There is no spelling homework on Wednesday
nights!

Mrs. Williams' 2nd Grade Class Information

Snacks:
Students will be allowed to have an afternoon snack around 2:45 pm. Appropriate snacks include crackers, granola bars,
fruit snacks, etc. (No candy or snacks that have liquid). You must provide this snack for your child as we will not have
a class snack offered. Water bottles are permitted, but please, water only. Juice will not be allowed to be consumed in the
classroom. Please also be aware that we do have students with peanut allergies in our class. Ideally, I would prefer
that students are not consuming snacks with this ingredient when in our classroom. Thank you!

Dress for School:

Dress your child in clothes that are comfortable! Please dress appropriately for the weather. We do go outside on cold
days. Students must have a coat during chilly weather! Write your childs name on all removable clothing (hats,
gloves, coats, etc.). Also, please make sure they are wearing appropriate foot wear. Flip flops and open toed sandals can be
a source of injury when running on the playground, especially through wood chips! Ideally, students should be wearing
sneakers or closed-toed shoes every day.

Lunch:
Please feel free to come and have lunch with your child, we would love to have you! Our lunch is from 11:04-11:34 am.
Please write your childs name on his or her lunch box.

Money:
Please send money to school in a sealed envelope labeled with your childs name, lunch number, amount, and purpose
(lunch, etc.).

Birthdays:
Please only send in individual or individually wrapped treats (i.e. cupcakes, Little Debbies). Again, remember that we
do have students with peanut allergies in our class. Please do not send in cookie cakes unless they are pre-cut. It is very
time consuming for me to cut and nearly impossible to do so equally among 20 kids J! Treats will be distributed to the
class during lunch in the cafeteria. This will help to avoid disruptions during instructional time.

Conferences:
If you would like to schedule a conference, please send me an e-mail at kameron.williams@walton.k12.ga.us or send a note
in with your child. Conferences can take place before or after school, or over the phone.

Class Behavior System:

Class Rules:
- Follow WPES School Rules
- Accept teacher correction without arguing.
- Be a good listener.

- Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.

- Show honesty and respect with words and actions.
- Always try your best!

The 2nd grade will be using the clip chart system. The clip chart consists of a chart that has been divided into levels.
All of the children start the day on Ready to Learn. Then, during the course of the day, the children move their
clothespins up or down the chart, based on the behavioral choices they make. If they are making good choices, they
can move their clothespin up a level at a time. Inappropriate behavior would cause them to move down a level. Since
the children start in the middle of the chart, they have numerous opportunities to work their way up the chart. This
really helps the children realize that they have to have self-control and be responsible for their actions and behavior
if they want to be recognized for making good choices. Making it to the top of the chart is not easy, but it is definitely
attainable. The children will quickly realize how they must conduct themselves in order to achieve this goal. Each
day, the children will document what color they go home on so their parents are aware. The colors on our clip chart
include: Blue: exceptional behavior, Orange: excellent behavior, Green: meeting expectations, Yellow: not meeting
expectations, Red: repeatedly not meeting expectations

My students clip up when they go the extra mile to

help a student in need, are the first or second to do
what I ask, are extra polite and respectful, do
exceptionally good work!

My students clip down when they interrupt me

when I'm teaching, are disrespectful to another
student or adult, are off task or purposely keep
another student from learning, do not behave in the
hall, during lunch time, or during specials.

*Students who continue to misbehave or have severe behavior will be sent to the office and a referral will be sent home.
