Fire Station Theft

It is with great sadness that we report the
fire station was broke into earlier this
Spring at the end of April.
Several items of life saving equipment
were stolen. We have been very fortunate
to have fire departments across the state
of Oregon donate or lend us used
equipment while we try and get the stolen
items replaced.
On a separate incident, the fire danger
sign pictured above was stolen in May.
If you hear of any information related to
this theft, please do not hesitate to contact
the Sheriff Department at (541) 524-6415.

Burning Restrictions

More burning restriction information:

When fire danger levels reach High and Extreme

please note the following:
Burning will be confined to a burn barrel.

The Blue Mountain Interagency Dispatch Center has

provided a webpage that includes a variety of
information that you might find useful this summer
during fire season. Visit www.BMIDC.ORG.

Barrel must have a good quality, heavy gauge

mesh screen, with holes no larger than inch, covering the opening.

A 10-foot (minimum) radius must be cleared

around the burn barrel to mineral soil.
(Additional clearance may be required.)

A charged water hose or a full one-gallon or

larger bucket of water must be present at the
burn site.

One person must be present at the burn site

with a shovel until burning is out.

Due to extreme fire danger, in event the

District places a REGULATED CLOSURE
on burn barrels, you will not be able to
conduct burning while this closure is in
effect.

Burn Barrel Burning Hours:

You may burn from 6 a.m. until 10 a.m. at which
time the fire must be watered dead out. This will
reduce fire danger during the day, and reduce
unwanted smoke in the valley during evening hours.
Please call Buzz Harper, Fire Chief, if you would like
information on agriculture burning or have
questions regarding any open burning,
(541) 519-8675.

Have an event coming up? Need

somewhere to hold it? The Fire
Station is available to district
members. Contact Sandy Harper
for details. (541) 519-7889

They have a variety of related links that will give you

the current conditions, fire restrictions and weather
information.
Specific fire locations and other information can be
found on the Incident Information page.
Industrial Fire Precautions and Fire Danger Ratings
are on the Current Conditions page.
Public Use Restrictions (wood cutting, campfires,
etc.) are on the Fire Restrictions page. Please
reference the Public Use Restrictions for ODF. Our
district follows the ODF guidelines for regulated
closures on burning.

Subscription
Information
The Keating Rural Fire Protection District is a
subscription based district. We rely on our patrons
paying their subscriptions in order for us to function
to the maximum of our ability.
It is the policy of the district to bill delinquent
subscribers for services they have received while
under that status. We have a 90-day grace period in
which to collect subscriptions, after this time, those
members who have not paid will be considered
delinquent. The status of those members is then
forward to the insurance companies. We sincerely
appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
If you have any questions regarding your
subscription, please feel free to contact the Treasurer,
Sandy Harper at (541) 519-7889.

Each year we always put in a request for new

volunteers. This organization relies solely on
volunteers from this community. You ask
yourself, How do I know if volunteering is for
me? We have many different tasks and
assignments that you could very well fit into. We
provide training for those that want to be fire
fighters and those that are interested in EMS, or
both. But we also need support personnel as well.
We need drivers, those who can direct traffic, can
help with equipment

Pack 422 News

Pack 422 had a busy year..they had several firsts..a camping trip at Catherine Creek and a
fishing day at the Powder River Ranch pond. Thanks to Dave and Allen Blair for taking the scouts camping,
Thanks to Buzz Harper for providing the fishing pond and Dave Blair for his fishing expertise! Dave spent
quite a bit of time putting worms on! Colton Clark and Asher Blair had successful catches of the day.
We had four scouts this past year; Tyler Wirth (Wolf), Colton Clark (Bear), Liam Blair (Bear) and
Jayden Clark (2nd year Webelo). Jayden was presented his Arrow of Light at the June Pack Night and will
be joining Troop 444 at the Methodist Church in Baker. Some of the Boy Scouts and leaders from Troop
444 were at pack night to present him his Boy Scout scarf.
Tyler, Colton, Liam, and incoming Tiger Scout, Wyatt Wirth attended day camp in June at Antone
Creek Campground. Mandy Wirth, Dave Blair and Patti Pickard attended as well and helped at the different
activities.
Pack 422 appreciates the Keating Fire Department for sponsoring Pack 422 for providing a place to
meet for meetings and pack night. Special thanks goes to executive committee: Michael Cook-Executive
Officer, Terri Berthelsen-Chartered Organization Rep. and Committee Chairman, Mike Miller-Committee
member, and Clair Pickard-Committee Member.
