AU JARDIN

Association Jardiniers du Sud-Ouest Chives

Issue: 121
July, 2016

July
Our visit to St. Fraigne was on a hot day. A very hot day I was afraid no-one
would have the courage to come but Im happy to say I was very wrong. The
gardens were fascinating and the church we visited afterwards was beautiful
and wonderfully cool. We finished by having a drink in a Nissan hut cooled by
water on the roof; an old-fashioned form of airconditioning that works
surprisingly well. A good time was had by all.
Next meeting: 20th September, 14:30 at Tillou.
In September we are calling an Extraordinary General Meeting. This is
necessary as Mike, after ten years of hard work and dedication to the club, is
retiring so we need to elect a new chairman and find at least one new member
of the committee. Mike would prefer to close the club so we will be starting the
meeting by putting that to the vote. Please try to come its your club so your
opinion counts.
I have agreed, if we decide to continue, to stand as candidate to take over the
chair but there will have to be some changes, changes that concern everyone
and in which everyone should have their say.
Firstly, the club will have to be re-registered in Tillou, change its name and
maybe its constitution but those are administrative matters and Im reliably
informed that it should present no problem.
Secondly, we propose that the club should only meet from September to April
the summer months are busier for most people and it is more difficult to find
the time to come to Tillou.

St. Fraigne

Lastly, and here we must have your input, we are thinking of broadening the
scope of the club including one or two things that are only indirectly to do
with gardening. Attached you will find a list, please mark the things you would
find interesting and either send it to me or bring it with you to the September
meeting. If you have any other suggestions or there is anything you hate on
the list, please let us know that, too.
To make the September meeting a little more fun we will be having our annual
quiz after the EGM.
Sue

From our Chairman

Hello Everyone.
First of all many thanks to all of you who came to St. Fraigne on one of the
hottest days of the summer to enjoy the gardens. Thank you.
As you now have probably read from Sue, we are holding an E.G.M. to discuss
the future of this garden club. I started LES JARDINIERS du SUD OUEST
CHIVES on Tuesday 17th January 2006, the first real meeting at my home.
The association is registered as a GARDEN CLUB, and has been run on those
lines ever since.
I feel that this has now come to an end and the club should be closed. For
many years we were supported both with a small donation and free use of the
main hall at CHIVES and then later the old school building, hence the use of
the name CHIVES in our clubs name.

May I take this opportunity to thank many of you who have been with me,
giving me great support over the ten years, yes, some, and they know who,
have been my friends over several difficult times, and given me their 100%
support. THANK YOU.
I would like to hear your comments, so if you are e-mailing Sue, perhaps you
will copy me in, as I do not always get information. If you can not come to the
EGM, please would you send on your thoughts so that we have a clear idea at
the meeting as to your wishes, again to Sue and to me please. (
lacourtyard@gmail.com )
Finally, This will be my last meeting as President, it has been an honour and
pleasure to have been President of this association, and I thank you all.
If at any time you should need to ask any garden related questions please feel
free to e-mail or phone. As from October I will be running, once a month,
workshops from the Nursery on all aspects of gardening, if you are interested
call me.
Many Thanks to all.

My own Mairie has pointed out that the name of Chives should NOT be used
in Tillou, as we are in two different departments.

Mike

Our constitution states that we are a garden club, NOT all those listed in the
list by Sue.and that we operate on a 12 month basis, not necessarily 12
meetings, but at least 12 news letters
Listening to members who came to the lake after the garden visit, comments
were made at how nice it would be that after each meeting we could stop
somewhere and have a beer. Unfortunately that is not why the club was
formed.
May I suggest. That the club ( association ) is closed in its present form.
That an Informal social club is formed in Tillou with those who wish to join, so
that you can fulfill all the ideas on the list put forward by Sue.
This " club " need not to be registered as an Association, will save on
insurance costs, be easier to run, no need for AGM.
This is my suggestion and, as founder and president until this last meeting,.
may I ask for your support in my plea.
