VALLEY SOCIAL CLUB

NEWSLETTER FOR MARCH 2015

Volume 49 Issue 2

FROM THE PRESIDENT DESK BY JULIANNE M.

Hello fellow club members. I think we can finally say its time to thaw
out. Wow what a winter. Im so glad that its getting warmer and the
snow is melting away. Despite the cold the club had a very active winter.
In a few weeks we will be having out St. Patrick's day lunch which to me
always is the beginning of spring activities at the club. So keep watching
on the calendar for up coming events.

FROM THE VICE PRESIDENT BY SLYVIA H.

Beware the ides of March are upon us. We are into a third of the new year already.
Can you believe it. I hope youre all feeling good. Im looking forward to some warm
days though. Thank you staff and our sisters club for making our
Valentines dance something to talk about. There are a few things going on that I
would like to try too and I havent yet. St Patricks day dinner is coming up and we
usually all enjoy a great meal which our staff provides. So if youre sitting home
thinking theres a lot to do, get up, get out to the club. Theres a lot we have to offer
and its great to experience different things. So dont hesitant to try. Take a chance.
We dont bite , honest. The club is cozy and warm. We need to also welcome some of
the new members and show them that the club provides a comfortable atmosphere,
to make friends and share ideas about ourselves. See you all at the club. Note if you
haven't paid your dues yet you should Its only $10 and make a lot of things
available to you. thanks

FROM THE SECRETARY BY PAULA B.

We have had so much snow this winter Im glad to see it end. I invite everyone to stop in and enjoy the club. We have free coffee, tea and hot chocolate.

PRAYERS AND CONDOLENCES
I write you yet again to share some recent losses of a few more members. We
will never forget you all. Even if you were not with us long we know how
much you contributed to our club. So for that we thank you! We have lost the
following members:
Al J. passed from Cancer on Feb. 1, 2015, he was the husband of Ruth J. and
they came every Christmas Brunch to celebrate the holidays.
Carlos M. was a talented artist. He liked to do detailed leather work and
wood burnings. He had an infectious smile. He was very kind and thoughtful
to all who knew him. His art work hangs in the club to remind of us him.
Mike P. was not here long but when he was he would play guitar with Tony K.
He was very good on a 12 string guitar.
These three men will not be forgotten by those who knew them. We
will remember you!

CONNECTICUT LEGAL RIGHTS PROJECT HELPS SO MANY AT THE
VSC
Helen Mehm comes to the every third Wednesday each month, from
1:30-2:30pm. She assists our members with housing issues, Advanced
Directives, and Living Wills. CLRP has been coming to the club for over 8 years.
The amount of people they have assisted has been invaluable. The staff and
members know they have a person who will help them in some legal issues. They
know how expensive getting a lawyer would be so, for the CLRP people to come
monthly to help them makes them feel less hopeless and frustrated in their
personal lives. We have a sign up sheets in the club. Staff can call over to the
club and sign up non-members for this service is for anyone
who receives BHcare Services. VSC members can sign up at
the club office at their convenience. We only ask if a signee
can not attend the session they call to cancel.
