Julius Caesar Essay

If you had a chance to be a ruler or a king of a country how far would you go to achieve
it. Would you even go as far to kill your friend and abandon your friendship. Julius Caesar is a
play written by William Shakespeare Which is about who is most fit to be king of rome.Mark
Antony Uses his words to manipulate the citizens minds into following him and ultimately
revealing what Brutus has done to Caesar to become king.
In his speech Mark Anthony uses rhetorical questions to make the citizens realize how
brutus only cares for himself and that he is not fit to become king. During Mark Antony's speech
he states that caesar had helped the kingdom the most by bringing in food and money from the
wars he fought and won and sharing with the people to keep them alive and healthy. In addition
to Mark Antony's speech he also had a desire to show the citizen caesar true actions and motives.
Mark Antony's speech to the citizens is a demonstration to how he is loyal to caesar and
has a Strong desire to show the citizens Caesar true intentions. During Mark Antony's speech
with the citizens he asked, Did this seem ambitious of ceasar? (ShakeSpeare 3.2 Pg.135). Mark
Anthony uses this rhetorical question to make the citizens realize that caesar did nothing wrong.
This quotes effect on the citizens helps them understand what Brutus did to become king was
wrong. After Anthony explains about what brutus did to caesar he then says, for Brutus sake, I
am obliged to you (Shakespear 3.2 pg133). This quote demonstrates that Anthonys lack of
passion and emotion during his speech relates to his lack of trust towards Brutus's government.

Therefore Anthony uses his lack of emotions mixed with rhetorical questions and pathos
to persuade the citizens that brutus is not fit to rule. In addition to pathos Anthony uses rhetorical
questions in his speech to reiterate the purpose of his ideas.
Anthony uses Rhetorical questions to persuade the citizens into believing brutus is not fit
to rule. During Mark Antony's speech about Ceasars death he asks, was this ambition
(shakespeare 3.2 pg 135) mark antony uses this after he had explained his other statements to
create ideas in the citizens mind that Caesar was not ambitious. He also uses this to form hatred
towards Brutus and the conspirators for killing Caesar. After his statement about Brutus should
not be king Mark Antony says, I have a dagger for myself when my country decides it needs my
death (ShakeSpeare 3.2 pg 135). Mark Antony uses this quote to make the citizens choose if
they will believe him or disbelieve him.
By using rhetorical questions and pathos, Mark Antony tries to persuade the citizens that
brutus had no other reason to kill Caesar other than just being greedy and power hungry. Through
his Speech Mark Antony also tries to prove that brutus only cares for himself and has no
intention to help the people.
