A Case Study of
ALMA ELECTRONICS: Ill Dream of You
FACTS
Mr. Andy Mallari opened a small shop selling transistor radios and other electronic parts
in Cabanatuan City in 1979. His business grew and by 1990 he was able to save money and
purchased a 300 square meter lot and built a two-storey building. He expanded his business
in
other big towns of San Jose City, Gapan and Guimba in which his current operations cover
sales
and repair. By this time he employs five salesladies in Cabanatuan and six technicians.
Mr. Mallaris perspective has changed drastically after he met his former classmate
Estelito Chan wh o now has a well-established appliance assembly plant in Manila. He said
that
he didnt start big but rather as a subcontractor for a large assembly plant until he was able
to
establish his own factory.
Mr. Mallari has three sons, all belonging to the top ten in their respective classes. His
oldest is about ready to enter college and is thinking of sending him to an engineering
school. He
thinks all three have the potential to help him realize his dream of establishing his own
assembly
plant.

ISSUE/PROBLEM
Mr. Andy Mallari wants to achieve his dream of establishing his own company and
he
wants to use his sons in achieving that dream. There are many ways of doing this
and one of
which is through their education. Finding the best institution and course related to
his business
for his sons would be one step closer in achieving that goal.
OBJECTIVES
1. What are the different aspects of Mr. Mallaris dream business and what are the
kinds of work needed for each aspect?

2. What are Mr. Mallaris childrens interest and how would these interests be
related to
his dream business?
3. What college courses would be suitable for both parties?
SOLUTION/RECOMMENDATION
1. Mr. Mallari should know the different aspects of his dream business whether if it is
in
administrative, production or sales for example. After knowing what part of his
business needed development, he should know what work or courses would be the
best choice for its progress. This will ensure stronger foundation for his business.

2. The childrens interest should be known before getting them into something like a
college course. Suggesting and not forcing them to take a course would be a better
action. Relating these interests in Mr. Mallaris dream business would be the next
thing to do. This would ensure the sons would still enjoy their college courses.
3. Assessing the information
and the

gathered

regarding the business aspects

childrens interest and relating them to college courses available would provide the
best decision in choosing the suitable courses for both parties. This will assure that
both the father and the sons would benefit in the future.
CONCLUSION
Starting a business always requires good decision making. Having the best persons
with
the right skills is what a businessman would look for in starting a business. Mr.
Mallari found the
best persons to do this but doesnt have the right skills yet. A strategy of enrolling
his sons to a
college school on a course related to his dream business is one Mr. Mallari should
decide.
Knowing the different aspects of his business and his sons interest and relating
them together is
one good way of finding the right course for them. This way it ensures that both
parties would

benefit
