Application of Generalization to New Situation

The researcher applied Correspondence Analysis to
find the relationship between various crime cases features and
types of crimes, and also to understand their relationship to
each other. The study was done by the researcher to
empirically describe and characterize carious crimes and rime
features in the Bicol region. Also, it compares the crime cases
and crime rates among the province, and determines the
characteristics of victims and suspects of crime cases. The
study done will also help the government of Bicol know the
effectiveness of the implemented regulations and increase
awareness of the public with the safety of their place.

Analysis of Data
Through the theories and former
studies known, the researcher has
formulated
hypotheses
like
urban
municipalities has a higher crime rate than
rural municipalities, index crime (rape,
murder, etc.) is more proliferating than nonindex crime, there is a significant
relationship between the type of crime
committed and other factors considered like
province, day and time, age of suspect and
victim, and the type of work of the victim.
To test the relationship of each
variable, the researcher has counted the
occurrence of the variables to obtain a
biplot from the two way contingency tables
constructed. Using the statistical software
SPSS, plots of the correspondence analysis
were made. Correspondence analysis
allowed the researcher to see the
relationship of the rows and columns in the
contingency table providing her a
description of the profile of victims and
suspects among the provinces in Bicol
region.

Collection of Data
The problem identified by the researcher was the increasing crime rate in the
Philippines which greatly affects the country's economy and image. To gain more
knowledge about the topic, she had read news and previous special problems relating
to the issue identified. Through those, she had based her study in some theories
formulated by sociologists like Robert Merton.
The data used in the study was from Camp Simeon A Ola, Police Regional
Office V containing the crime records in the Bicol region from 2006-2008. An
observation contains all information on the crime, suspect/s, victim/s, and crime
scene. The research done only deals with the data of crimes and profile from 2006 2008 in the Bicol region. The data used by the researcher can be considered as a
reliable one since it is from the regional office of the Philippine National Office.

Synthesis of Data
Through
correspondence
analysis, the researcher had shown
patterns among and between rows
and columns of the contingency
table resulting to a generalization
that the seasonality of crime rate was
not apparent in Bicol region. Also,
index crimes like rape, murder and
homicide happen more than of the
non-index crimes. Moreover, crimes
take place when victims are usually
alone and a suspect is of the same
age with the victim. Additionally,
businessmen are more likely to be
victims by those who have no jobs.
In addition, it yielded the
different crime rate in each of the
provinces in the Bicol region and
showed that it is affected by the
industrialization or urbanization of
the province.

Evaluation of Data
The evidences of the crime rate and crime
cases of the study were evaluated through the
correspondence analysis done. The correspondence
analysis is considered an appropriate measurement in
identifying crime patterns and its individual
characteristics. The data can be considered unstable
since the crime rate and crime cases may change
through time especially the study was done in 2010 and
the data used was from 2006-2008 and the results may
change if data from different years were used.
We can say that logic support the manner in
which the experiment was conducted since the type of
work of the victim and suspect, their age, and other
factors are truly related to the crime cases. The proper
data was collected since it was from the regional office
of the Philippine National Police and the data contains
the information known to the crime case. The data also
answers the research objectives to compare the crime
cases and crime rates among the province, and
determine the characteristics of victims and suspects of
crime cases. Also, the research was done based on the
formulated theories by known sociologists.
