Thursday, September 22nd: Johnny Appleseeds Birthday celebration! First grade will celebrate the
legend of John Chapman by reading stories and sampling different types of apple foods. The apple foods
will include: apple juice, unsweetened applesauce, apple granola (from Trader Joes) and apple slices.

Please note: If you do not want your child to eat a particular apple food, please let me know by
Monday!
Monday, October 10st, 10:30am: Field Trip to Humane Society Truckee Tahoe *If you are available
to chaperone and you are fingerprinted, please let me know! If you prefer to drive your own child and
meet us at the shelter, please let me know. Be on the lookout for a permission slip the first week of
October.

This month we are celebrating the work of Mo Willems! We will be reading Dont Let the Pigeon
Drive the Bus, Knufflebunny, I am a Frog! and much more! We will be completing Mo Willems
themed crafts and learn how to write speech bubbles.

Dahl this month in honor of his birthday on September

Student of the Week

Next week we will begin Student of the Week. One child will be chosen at random to take home one of
our classroom puppies, a writing journal and an All About Me sheet. These items will come home in a
small cloth bag. The child is to take the puppy on an adventure over the weekend, whether it is to the ice
cream shop, a playdate or a hike, and then write a minimum of 3 complete sentences about what they did
with the puppy in the journal. There is an example of what Im looking for in the journal already, in case
you need pointers. During the weekend, please help your child fill in the All About Me sheets (basic
biographical information).You may include actual photographs of your family or have your child simply
draw pictures. During the week, your childs All About Me sheets will be hung up in the classroom and
your child will present what she or he wrote. Please return the puppy, journal and All About Me sheets in
the cloth bag by the following Monday.
