Objectives
Reading

Reading Workshop: We will be finishing up

learning the strategies to use during our
Read to Self Time! I can read and
understand books at my level well.
Comprehension Strategy: Retelling a story.
I can retell a story I know using
important details and show that I know
the author is trying to teach me.

Language

Math
Phonics/
Spelling

Sorting words into categories. I can sort

things into groups and use the names of
the groups to help me understand them
better. (colors, clothing)
We will be focusing on ordering numbers on
a number line and finding one more and one
less. I can count up to 120 starting at
any number under 120.
Short vowel sounds and CVC words.
Reviewing all Kindergarten sight words,
letter names and sounds. I can find and
tell the beginning, middle and ending
sounds in short words.

Writing

This week we will continue to work on

launching Writing Workshop and what it
means to be a writer. I can write to tell
an organized story with details.

Science

We will be learning about the scientific

method and conducting our first experiment
as scientists with apples! I can plan and
conduct simple investigations.

Social
Studies

We will continue to learn about rules in

school and the community. Ask your student
what some of our rules are. I can identify
different rules at home and school. I can
follow the rules at school.

Rachels
Challenge

The Power of Influence

We will be demonstrating the influencing
power of kind words.

Homework
Students will be bringing their
take home books home this
week to read. Please sign and
return the reading log. I sent
home one review sheet for math
homework. It should be a fun
activity to complete! Later this
week I will be sending home
some information about our
sight word homework challenge.
Instead of assigning a weekly
phonics/reading homework, we
are going to have a challenge
to learn 100 sight words! More
details to follow!
