Welcome to English 2: Honors

COURSE DESCRIPTION: In English 2H we will be developing skills needed for

life beyond the classroom. To successfully do this, we will be interacting with

text from the dawn of English literature, to Shakespeare, to modern writers.
You can expect no two days will be the same and each day will be productive
in making us better members of society.
GOALS: Together as a community of learners, we will work to increase our

individual proficiencies as readers, writers, and listeners by categorizing our

work into these six broad categories in alignment with the Common Core:
Creating a Context
Reading Closely
Analyzing

Building Stamina
Writing (and Speaking) to Transfer
Exposing Precise Thinking

PLATFORM: To find any assignments, due dates, or important links, check

out our classs Google Classroom. Be sure to download the extension on
Chrome. Sick? You definitely missed something important. Check Google
Classroom. Going to miss class? You will miss something important. Make
up your work before you leave - come talk to me! Daily lesson plans will be
blogged on Eng2H Daily for your leisure.
EXPECTATIONS: My expectations are simple: be kind, be patient, and be

respectful.
Be kind to your teacher, classmates, and custodial staff:
I have seven classes. I wont be tracking you down for late
assignments. I will not be giving you much homework;
when I do, I expect it to be done on time and done well.
If you have a question or concern, I am available before and
after school! You have the opportunity to make up late
work or retake assessments if you can make solid,
convincing arguments.

 The janitor and I do not want to pick after you. Clean up your
mess. Also, this means no food is allowed in room 406.
However, I encourage you to bring water (its great for the mind
and body).
Be patient with yourself:
It is difficult to write, read, and speak well. With practice,
optimism, and patience, we will reach our goal of becoming
voracious readers, craftful writers, and eloquent speakers. I am
still learning, too!
Be respectful to your peers:
This classroom is a safe zone. Bullying of any sort will not be
permitted. Keep hands, feets, and objects to yourself.
Lets make this a fun place to read, write, speak, learn, and
make mistakes. We only get better when we take risks while
learning and encourage each others process. GOOD VIBES
ONLY :)
Using work that is not original is prohibited. It is not respectful
to your own abilities, your teacher, or your peers. Those
caught cheating (yes, that includes plagiarism) will be given an
automatic zero (see page 21 of your student handbook).

WEIGHT: This class is skills-based (i.e. we focus and work on skills that are
transferable to other facets of life) and therefore will be graded appropriately. My
goal for this class is that the work is meaningful, purposeful, and rigorous
(challenging + achievable + engaging).

READING: 30% (20% first bullet point, 10% second bullet

point)
Daily Reading, Most in-class work (graphic organizers,
analyzing bits, using textual evidence), reading conferences
Tests/ quizzes
WRITING: 30% (15% first bullet point, 15% second bullet
