Clubs and opportunities at Jouett Middle School!

This informational sheet is organized by area of interest (math, social studies, etc). Each opportunity has the
approximate time it will run, a teacher advisor/contact so you know who to talk to, and whether there are competition
opportunities. There may be new clubs and opportunities that pop up through the year, so make sure you
are listening to the morning broadcast so you dont miss out!

Math and science club run

engineering students.
Participants will explore
math and science
concepts through
experiments and games.
Math club run in

Albemarle Math Honor
Society students. Club
members will participate
in math competitions
within the county, the
Mathcounts competition,
and the Girls Excelling in
Math (GEM) competition at
the Village School.
Club members will build a
working wind turbine to
generate electricity and
will compete in a wind
power contest against
other schools in the
spring.
Students will have an
opportunity to design,
build, and program robots
using Lego Mindstorms

Debate Club STARTING

Model United Nations

Writers Eye

Club run in partnership


with the Charlottesville
Debate League. Students
will learn the basics of
debate, explore current
events, and compete
against other middle
schools.
A simulation where
students roleplay
delegates to the United
Nations. First semester,
students will explore
current events, writing,
and debate through
games and activities.
Second semester,
students will research an
issue with partners in
preparation for the MUN
conference in D.C. in May.
A writing competition held
by the UVa Art Museum.
Students will meet to
explore art and creative
writing and write a piece
inspired by a work at the
museum. Depending on
student interest, this
could evolve into a
Literary Magazine.

Photo Club where students


will have the opportunity
to learn about the
aesthetics of photography
as well as the
technologies (photoshop).
Opportunities to showcase
work in-school.
This is an honor society
for students in a music
class that want to serve
their community and bond
over their appreciation for
music. Requirements:
must be enrolled in a
music class, must have B
average in music class
and C average in all other
classes. 6th graders not
eligible until second
semester.
