Unit Unit We will have our end of unit water demonstration/protest this week and begin our final unit. Our new unit is Should I Stay or Should I Go? and looks at migration. The central idea is that human migration is a response to challenges, risks, and opportunities. The lines of inquiry include: the reasons why people migrate, effects of migration on communities, cultures, and individuals, and migration throughout history. If you would be willing to come in and share your own migration story with the students we would love to have you. Also, please talk to your child about their own personal experiences with migrating. We are planning a trip to Kreuzberg in June to become more familiar with some of the immigrant communities to Berlin. Language Arts We will be writing about our time in Arendsee and incorporating pictures to make individual movies. Book Talks, Teasers, blogging, literature circles, and word study (for some classes) will continue like always.
Math
We will begin a unit on 2D and 3D shapes. We will be looking at lines, line segments, rays, angles, faces, edges, vertices, perimeter, and area. We will continue to practice addition and subtraction with regrouping. Some students use counting on as a way to avoid regrouping in subtraction problems.
