1. Rooms that are typically included in the living area of a home are a living room,
dining room, entry and foyer, family room, special-purpose rooms, porches, and
patios.
2. The set of standards that address accessibility design guidelines applying to the
ADA are Standards for Accessible Design.
3. Two characteristics of good traffic circulation in home are travel distances, and
should not pass through private areas.
4. For an average size living room it is 250 square feet.
5. A great room is a room that functions more than one room. The rooms it might
replace in a house with an open plan are a living room and dining room.
6. The advantages of having a closed plan with a separate dining room would be to
take advantage of the sun. If you locate your living room on the south side, you
can take advantage of the winter sun. Also, this room would be out of view in
most cases and if it isnt used often, upkeep is easier.
7. Three basic types of entries are the main entry, the service entry, and the specialpurpose entry.
8. The purpose of a foyer is to greet guests, and when it is colder, you can remove
overcoats and boots in this area.
9. Three special-purpose rooms that may be included in the living area of a home
would be a dedicated home office, library, and a music room.
10. A porch differs from a patio because porches are generally usually connected to
the house.
