Topic 1. Window Design According To location of Lahore.
According to Lahore climate the following window placement is suitable for House.
Windows placement according to Faces. According to Wind Direction and Sun path.
1. East Side Facing
The Casement Windows are suitable for east side facing the with size of 4’ x 4’,
5’x5’, 4’x5’, 4’x6’, 5’x6’. If the space area is larger than the window size should be
increase. It varies on situation; size may be 6’x 8’ 8’x 8’. With shading used in interior or
exterior.
The Sliding window is also suitable for the East side facing of a house with size
of 4’ x 4’, 5’x5’, 4’x5’, 4’x6’, 5’x6’ its outer side is cover with mesh.
These windows are used for good ventilation according to Lahore climate at East
side facing. Also, for lighting purpose. The climate of Lahore is mostly hot. So, for this
purpose the mostly window medium window size is used in houses.
On the east side the window can be provided at angle of 30 or 45 degree. Also,
the east face of building can be angular to sun direction.

2. North Side Facing

At north side facing the same window can be used and also with same size. Size
can be increase for good ventilation because the wind flow in Lahore is from NW to SE.
The size of window can be 4x4, 4x6, 5x6 feet.

3. South Side Facing

Mostly in housing scheme and towns Like DHA, Gulberg, Model Town and
another currently developed area. Are facing at south side due to sun orientation.
The small size windows are used with combine frame of door at main entrance of
house. The Sliding windows are suitable at south side. The size of window can be 3x5, 4x6,
5x6 or 3x6 feet. It varies on elevation of house.

4. West Side Facing

. During the Sun set in summer the temperature is most high at 12 to 4pm that why
the window Medium size is suitable for South side of Building.
The size of window can be 4x4, 5x6, and 4x5 feet. It is depended on space.

Choosing Windows
The basic things that you need to consider when selecting windows is:
The Sun Direction
Size: The right sized windows are those that suit the space in which they are being installed
and provide for the right amount of ventilation, natural light and security.
Shape: Short, wide windows will let in a wide but shallow amount of light, while tall, narrow
windows let in a narrow but deep amount of light.

1. Security: As intruders favour windows or doors when trying to break into a

home, windows need to be able to be locked – preferably with a key. Windows should be
locked whenever they are not in use.
 2. Placement: Try and place your windows so that they suit your needs for
different times of the day. East-facing windows will get the morning sun; west-facing
windows receive afternoon sun, while north-facing windows will receive the most light
overall. South-facing windows do not get much light but they can still be used for
ventilation purposes.
3. Ventilation requirements: As a general rule, each room in the house should
have a minimum five percent of ventilation but preferably it should be ten percent.

lowe glass, there are many types of glazing to choose from for your windows. For more

and you’re reducing the demand on the environment

TYPES OF WINDOWS
• Sliding – sliding windows slide horizontally along a runner. They
are very versatile windows and are relatively cheap. Sliding
windows suit most styles of home, take up little space and are low
maintenance. They are lockable for extra security.
• Fixed Pane – these windows cannot be opened and are essentially a
sheet of window glass set within a frame. Because they remain in
place, they can be made to any shape or size and they are easily
dressed with curtains or other window dressings.

• Bi-fold – these operate in the same fashion as bi-fold doors, with

the windows opening inwards or outwards in a concertina way. As
these windows let in a of light and air they are well-suited to
entertaining. They are also lockable.

• Double-hung – double-hung windows are common and have two

separate panels that move up and down independently. These
windows are lockable, let in as much or as little air as you want,
and allow you to fit flyscreens. They also allow for a variety of
window dressings.

• Awning – these open outwards using a chain winder, and these

chains hold the window open at the desired position. Awning
windows are suitable for spots that are difficult to reach or where
the window may be partially obstructed.

• Louvres – louvre windows are made up of panels of slatted glass

that turn to the desired position. They are great for ventilation as
they let in maximum air. It is even possible to have them open
while it is raining if they are turned to the correct position.
Topic 2. Style of Shades.

There are both interior and exterior shade options which can be used to protect windows not
otherwise shaded from the sun. In general, it is best to block the sun before it reaches the
window. The variety of shading strategies shown below is effective at accomplishing that
goal.
Shades can be design according to sunshine angle and sun path angle on
opening.

Room facing north catch the most natural light. It is greate place to suit your living room
or area used trough out the day

Room facing south receive the least light. Bathrooms and Utility entrances are often
placed there.
3. East Facing
