Why is Scout so likeable?

What character is the most likeable and explain why? In the eyes of some readers, Scout is
the most likeable character because she is basically the most entertaining character in the
story. Shes always doing something that will catch the readers attention. In To Kill a
Mockingbird by Harper Lee will reveal things through how she is brave, how she is
cautious/aware, and how shes a tomboy but also sensitive.
Scout is an aggressive, brave, strong little girl and always ready to fight. On page 30, it
talks about how Scout fought Walter Cunningham during recess/ lunch time. Scout said He
made me start off on the wrong, she said to Jem. The reason she felt like is because she
stood up for Walter and explained to Ms. Caroline that the Cunninghams are poor and dont
like taking offers from people because they know they wont be able to it in return. Some
readers liked Scout because she was one of those children who would fight someone who
talked about her family. She always stood up for Atticus when kids or anyone would talk
about Atticus defending Tom Robinson. An example is on page 99, Scout beat up this little
boy named Cecil Jacobs because during recess he said Atticus defended n-words. In the
words of Scout, she said YOU CAN JUST take that back, boy!, because she was trying to
avoid fighting anyone. Another example of Scout standing up for her family is when she
fought her cousin Francis because he called Atticus an n-word lover starting on pages 110112.
Out of all of the characters in the story, Scout was most cautious and always aware. One
example of Scout being cautious is that she always asked questions because it helped her
understand situations better. On page 27, Scout asked Are we poor as the Cunninghams?
, she asked that because Walter and his family pay people back by like giving wood, food,

and etc. The second example is on page 68, when Scout was scared to sneak over to Boo
Radleys house with Jem and Dill. On page 68, Scout said But what in the sam holy hill did
you wait until tonight?, Scout was scared because she was thinking if Boo Radley killed
them nobody would know or hear it because they waited until night time to do it. Last
example is on page 100, when Scout asked Atticus about defending n-words. Do all
lawyers defend n-Negroes, Atticus? said Scout, the reason she asked Atticus that because
Cecil said he did (the example in paragraph 2).
Scout was the most aggressive and sensitive tomboy, Ive ever heard! She always hung
out with boys and an example of that is on pages 49-50, when Jem, Dill, and Scout decided
to ride in a tire and she went first. On page 49, Scout said Lets roll in the tire, because
she hated doing girly things like having tea parties and playing with dolls. Another example
that starts on page 51, is when Scout, Jem, and Dill were playing the roles of the Bradleys
house. This example is showing her tomboy and sensitive side. On page 51, Scout said I
declare if I will. I dont think- because she was scared that Boo Radley would find out and
hurt them. Scouts sensitive side is outrageous because when she was upset, she was most
definitely furious. One example is when she got upset when Cal got on her for being rude to
Walter Cunningham. On page 32, Cal said Theres some folks who dont eat like us and
she said that because Scout was picking on Walter on the way he ate his food. Another
example is when Scout told Atticus that Cal didnt like her. On page 33, Scout said, She like
Jem bettern she like me and Atticus suggested to her that Jem doesnt bother her that
much. The last example is when Jem went back to get his pants from Boo Radleys back
yard. On page 75, Scout said Its not like hed never speak to you again or somethin Im
gonna wake him up, Jem, I swear I am-, the reason she said that because she was scared
that Jem was going to get hurt or KILLED!

In this novel, Scout reminded of myself when I was real young. When I was little I loved to
fight little boys in my community and school too. Also, I hung out and played with my boy
cousins because all my girl cousins wanted to play with dolls and have tea parties and I
hated doing all those with a passion. Just like Scout, I would always ask questions about
this or that and it use to always get on my cousins nerves. I was a huge tomboy when I was
little, I used to wear always wear boy gym shorts with a big baggy shirt and tennis shoes.
My mom hated the fact that I didnt want to wear girly clothes. Scout is truly the best
character in the book because shes so dramatic and it makes the book fun to read.
