From the opening scene of the movie, you can already say that Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo is
not your regular movie production. It opens with a shot of a dark prison, showing a silhouette of a
prisoner. For a few moments, you are forced to let this sink in. With this shot, it sets the nature of the film.
The film depicts the events from 1800s; the 300 years of the Spaniards ruling over our country.
The person is revealed to be one of the three martyr priests, fervently praying, while the two
others are in awe of what had happened to them. Two fguards came to bring them to the plaza for
execution through hanging. The people around watching the hanging of the men were fuming in anger but
couldnt do anything to help them. In their midst is a child. The sun rose, and there started to grow a child
who became a leader of the Katipunan none other than Andres Bonifacio.
At our present time, we have always known Andres Bonifacio who led in tearing the Cedulas.
And this was a clear manifestation that he already renounced the Spanish government. Thus he became
the leader of the Katipuneros and he was called Ang Unang Pangulo.
It has been a subject of arguments ad debate who to call as the first president of the Philippine
Republic. Because some believed that it was really Andres Bonifacio and not any other. This was the
compelling reason why the researchers felt the need to have his story be known to all Filipinos.
On the technical side, this film is really exceptional and is indeed a work of art and passion. From
the production design the set and light designs to costumes, brings the audience to that period. They
really put effort to put every attention to detail. The cinematography is effectively capturing and that
undeniably a one of its kind.
The historical implications and technical aspects are the strong points of the film. It gives
everyone who watch a new perspective. It provides a refreshing view on what has been written about our
countrys history.
When it comes to the actors and actresses in the movie, they were able to give justice to the roles
they portrayed. From the expressions, to their lines. The characters show a manner of their actions in
consonance with how people during the early times acted.
Going back to historical implications, it made me think, how accurate the information presented in
the movie are. What were their basis? Why it hasnt been part of the history books written at least some
part of it. And that if I have a shallow knowledge on our history, I will easily be swayed by the facts shown
in this film.
