What is Uddhava Gita

Who is Uddhava?

Uddhava also known as Pavanayadhi is a character from the Puranic texts of

Hinduism, wherein his is the friend and counselor of Sri Krishna the avatar. He
plays a significant role in the Bhagavata Purana, being taught the processes of
yoga and bhakti directly bySri Krishna.
The principle of these discussions is often referred to as the Uddhava Gita,
similarly to the Bhagavad-Gita wherein SriKrishna instructs Arjuna.
According to some texts Uddhava was also Sri Krishna's cousin, being the son of
Devabhaga, who was the brother of Vasudeva, SriKrishna's father. His physical
appearance was so like that of SriKrishna's that in some instances he is
temporarily mistaken for the latter.

What is Uddhava Gita and how it came into existence?

Uddhav Gita, a part of Srimad Bhagavata, is the epitome of Vedanta Sutra,
Bhagavad-Gita and Sankhy philosophy all blended into one with a mythological
flavor.
Sri. Krishna divine discourse to Uddhav and answers all his queries ranging from
spirituality, religion, code of conduct for various classes of society and stages of
life, and many more topics. In fact Sri Krishnas words are addressed to all those
who are genuine and ardent seekers of truth. It is in the 11th book of the Srimad
Bhagavata, from chapter 7 onwards.
These teachings are called Uddhava Gita, also Hamsa Gita.

After Mahabharata war Sri Krishna thought to himself, 'Although some may say
that the earth's burden is now gone, in my opinion it is not yet gone. For there
still remains my own dynasty. Its strength is unbearable for the earth.'
Sri.Krishna further thought, 'No outside force could ever bring about the defeat of
this family. But I will inspire a quarrel within the dynasty, and that quarrel will act
just like a fire created from the friction of bamboo in a grove'
SriKrishna now wanted to annihilate his dynasty, and so he did.
Then time had come for SriKrishna to leave the earth plane too. But first he
taught his friend Uddhava a whole lot.
