How do you think Hot Topic employees would react if the company gave them each a
small raise, but stopped paying them to attend music concerts? Would they be more or
less motivated to please customers? Why? (6 marks)
If Hot Topic gives the employees a small raise but stops paying them to attend music concerts,
then it would empower the employees to make their own decisions and take more responsibility.
As of now they have to go to the concert and they cannot choose on their own, but with the
money, they get as result of raise they can either go to the concert or can go to some other
place where they think itd be more beneficial for the organization and themselves too.
Following are some points which might be the case if the hypothetical scenario happens:
Employees can use their money not only in their personal works but also in cultural activities
to know about the latest trends.
It will provide them more flexibility to improve their creativity in their own way.
It will give the employees authority to make decisions. It will give them a chance to serve the
customer in a better way.

A Theory X manager wont perform well at Hot Topic due to following reasons:
1. At Hot Topic employees are encouraged to make their own decisions but Theory X
manager will make them work according to his vision.
2. Theory X manager might threaten employees with punishment which might make them
insecure about their jobs.
3. Theory X manager imposes authority and decision on employees which will reduce
flexibility and creativity in employees.
