Dinmica MAPA DE OBJETIVOS

General Objective

Identify processes and indicators which will allow a simple way to quantify the main
marine ecosystem services provided by phytoplankton populations and oceanographic
conditions in coastal areas around Latin-America (corresponding to the sites of Antares
time-series stations) and transfer this scientific knowledge to decision makers.
Specific Objectives
1. Evaluate ecosystem dynamics
by studying how local and largerscale oceanographic processes
impact on the biological
conditions at each site by using a
core set of timeseries
observations (making use of in
situ and remote sensing data).

2. Study the link between

ecosystem state changes at the
local Antares sites with changes
directly related to regional and
global climate processes, and airocean interactions.

5. Assess the value of the main

marine ecosystem services
considered here.

3. Describe the main socioeconomic conditions around the

coastal areas selected in the
different Latin-American
countries.

6. Develop an approach to define

and calculate indicators of the
state of the marine ecosystem
services considered here.

4. Identify and characterize based

on the natural and social
conditions, the main ecosystem
services that the phytoplankton
populations and the
oceanographic environment
provide.

7. Promote a venue of communication

(using the Antares webpage) of the
results obtained throughout the
project, as well as clear background
concepts, to decision makers, and the
stakeholders: general public, including
educators, cultural fora, and media.
