Representation
There are two characters in our opening sequence of a film. We wanted to
include some codes and conventions to make it obvious for our audience what
we are trying to represent and that the opening sequence was a horror film.
Nevertheless, our characters are arguably quite opposing to the stereotypical
view of them which enables the audience to connect with the characters and not
find it boring. Also, this enables us to have some depth in our opening sequence
of our film to make it more interesting and appealing.
Main character being a Female (Protagonist):

One of our main characters is a female which is quite opposing to the

stereotypical girl yet has some aspects that relate back to the stereotypical girl
which makes our opening sequence different and with a twist to make it stand
out. Also, the main representation of this film is the counter-typical dominance of
a female character as gender stereotypes puts men dominantly above women.
At first the audience will sympathise with the female character as stereotypically
she will be the nice and innocent one, this will put the audience on her side until
a series of events occur which will change the whole audiences view, this may
come as a shock as the girl isnt the stereotypical one as she is completely
opposite that. She is vicious, malevolent and very violent which is stereotypically
portrayed by a man however not in this case. Although she is quite a negative
character she could influence the female audience and make them feel as if they
had power due to the dominance of the female character in our opening
sequence. This could consequently attract a wider range of female viewers which
will be very beneficial for us.

Second main character being a male:

Our other main character is a male however this time around he is the second
most important directly under the female character which is opposing to the
stereotypical view on gender leadership, this enables our opening sequence to
be different to others yet again making it interesting and appealing to a wider
audience that want to see a change. Also, the male character in our film is
portrayed as a weak and scared individual which is again not the typical stereo
type as men are stereotypically seen as the dominant gender and them being
strong, ruthless and confident. Our male character however, opposes this
stereotype in every way there is. This will then make the audience sympathise
with the male character which is unusual according to stereotypes. Our opening
sequence differentiates to the others which will generate more support and will
attract more people.
